"IceThe Samsung Galaxy Nexus is currently the only Android 4 smartphone on the market in the United States, and others are soon to follow, but that’s not the end of the story. Other late-gen Android devices including tablets and even hybrid notebooks will be getting upgrades to Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS), presumably in the next few months. Here’s what we know so far.

Samsung: The Korean company has confirmed that it will upgrade some of its 2011 Galaxy devices to Ice Cream Sandwich, the code-name for Android 4.0. “ICS-upgradable devices are the GALAXY S II, GALAXY S II LTE, GALAXY Note, GALAXY R, GALAXY Tab 10.1, GALAXY Tab 8.9, GALAXY Tab 7.7, and GALAXY Tab 7.0 Plus.” No timeframe was given other than that plans included some ICS releases in Q1 2012 with others to follow later in the year.

Motorola: The recently-released Droid RAZR has been promised an upgrade to ICS from the jump. The Droid Bionic, also from Verizon Wireless, will get the upgrade, too, along with the Xyboard. The Motorola XOOM, the first to run Android 3.0, is already seeing Android 4 updates. Upgrades for other Motorola smartphones and tablets are still up in the air, but we’ll add them here if they’re confirmed.

HTC: Here’s the only statement we could find from HTC vis-à-vis ICS: “Ice Cream Sandwich is coming in early 2012 to a variety of devices including the HTC Sensation, HTC Sensation XL and HTC Sensation XE, as well as the HTC Rezound, HTC EVO 3D, HTC EVO Design 4G and HTC Amaze 4G through close integration with our carrier partners.” Google has also stated that the GSM versions of the Nexus S, built by HTC, will get ICS by mid-January 2012, but there’s been no word on the Sprint CDMA version.

LG: The G2x will receive the update to Android 4, as will “the Optimus Black, the Optimus 3D and the Optimus LTE.” (Source PCMag.com)

Sony: The company’s Xperia smartphones will get ICS upgrades beginning in March or April of 2012. The Xperia Play will get Android 4 sometime in May. And the Sony Tablet S and Tablet P will also get some sandwichy Ice Cream love.

Asus: The Transformer Prime Android tablet is among the first to get Android 4.0; updates are available now.

We will continue to update this list over the coming weeks and months as more information becomes available. If you’re waiting for your 2011 Android device to receive the ICS update, be patient; the first updates are likely not coming until well into the first quarter of 2012.
