HTC Droid Incredible to Hit Verizon April 29

HTC Droid Incredible (Face View)

A page posted at the Verizon Wireless web site has verified an April release of the upcoming HTC Incredible.  It has also confirmed that Incredible will be part of the Droid Family (joining the Motorola Droid and Droid Eris) and that it will either go on sale or begin shipping April 29th.

The HTC Incredible is an Android-powered smartphone similar, in some respects, to Google’s Nexus One.  Leaked specs indicate a 1GHz Snapdragon SoC CPU, a 3.7-inch OLED capacitive touchscreen, an 8MP camera with auto focus, 512MB of RAM and 8GB of flash storage, Android OS v2.1, and EV-DO data support.

Update 4/15/10: The HTC Incredible will go on sale April 29th with a retail price of $199 with a two-year service agreement and $100 mail-in rebate.

SanDisk 32GB microSD Card Shipping in April

SanDisk 32GB microSDHC Memory Card

32GB microSD cards will soon be a reality – but it’ll cost you.  SanDisk has just announced that it will begin shipping the 32GB version of its microSDHC flash memory cards in the U.S. next month, for the low-low price of $199 per unit.

The company is already accepting pre-orders for the card (model SDSDQY-032G-A11M).  Third-party retailers such as Amazon.com and Buy.com will likely begin selling the 32GB card in the next few weeks, and almost certainly for less than the sky-high MSRP.

Many smartphones running Windows Mobile and Android are already compatible with 32GB microSDHC memory cards.  Check your product literature for details.

High Quality Skin Cases for HTC HD2 @ eBay

HD2 Skin Case, Front & Back View

We’re big fans of skin cases for slim smartphones.  So when T-Mobile released the HTC HD2 on Wednesday, one of the first questions we asked was Where can we find a high quality skin case for the new HD2?

At the moment, such cases are limited, though there are a few for sale at Amazon.com;  the early selection looked a little wimpy for our tastes, however, which led us to search elsewhere.

Luckily, eBay has hundreds of auctions for HD2 skin cases, and a few of them look pretty great.

eBay may not be the first place you think of when you’re looking to buy something new, but it can be a great and budget-friendly resource for smartphone accessories, including cases and skins.  Check out HD2 skin cases on eBay if you’re in the market for a second skin for your new phone.

Smart Mahjongg for Windows Mobile

hd2_9

Mahjongg is a classic Chinese puzzle game where you select pairs of matching tiles to make them disappear. The objective (if you’ve never played) is to eliminate all tiles to clear the board.

There are retail versions of Mahjongg for Windows Mobile, but there’s also a recently-updated freeware alternative called Smart Mahjongg from developer Christian Morawietz. The app is free for personal use and includes a range of features such as multiple layouts, undo, tile shuffle and game statistics.

Smart Mahjongg v2.0 requires the .NET Compact Framework 3.5 and is for touchscreen Windows Mobile devices only.

Motorola i1 Sprint Nextel Android Phone Announced

Motorola i1 Android Phone

The first Nextel iDEN Android smartphone has been announced: the Motorola i1.  Details of the new device are somewhat limited, but we do know it will run the Android OS, that it is compatible with Nextel’s Direct Connect service and that it will ship sometime this summer.

“As the first Nextel Direct Connect Android smartphone, Motorola i1 with Wi-Fi offers a powerful tool for our customers with access to thousands of applications in the Android Market,” said Fared Adib, vice president – Product Development, Sprint.  “With rugged durability, a full touchscreen and 5.0 megapixel camera, Motorola i1 gives push-to-talk customers a compelling smartphone that can withstand some of the harshest environments.”

It is unclear whether the i1 will depend on Wi-Fi for data or if it will use Sprint’s data network for wireless connectivity.  The fact that the press release didn’t clarify this suggests that its mobile Internet options will be less than stellar.
