MSI Computer announced the availability of the new Wind U210 notebook this afternoon. Weighing in at just 3.2 pounds, Wind U210 is MSIs first notebook to feature the AMD Athlon Neo MV-40 1.6 GHz processor. The newest edition to the Wind family of ultraportables, also features a 250 GB hard drive, 2GB of DDR2 memory, and an energy efficient 6-cell battery with a 4+ hour life. MSI paired the Wind U210s 12.1 HD (1366×768) 16:9 aspect ratio LCD with ATI Radeon X1250 for crystal clear graphics. This week, Microsoft is supposed to roll out the latest version of its Zune Media Player. Microsoft is hoping this latest version of the Zune Player can steal some market share away from Apple's iPod family. The Zune will come with a 3.3-inch multitouch screen and be available in 32GB and 16GB varieties for $290 and $220, respectively.

Zune HD features a new OLED (organic light emitting diode) screen and will send high-def video to a HDTV using a new Zune AV dock, sold separately. The 16GB is available in black and the 32GB is available in “platinum” at retail locations. Customers can purchase Zune in red, green, or blue in both capacities from Zuneoriginals.net. Zune HD will also play games, HD Radio, and offers music-recommendation software, called Smart DJ.

The peripheral and SATA cables are supplied in three different lengths a nice touch, which may go a little way to helping with cable management and that uncluttered look. One small bone of contention is a Mean Time Before Failure (MTBF) figure of 100,000 hours quoted at 25C. This temperature is totally unrealistic, especially if the power supply is heavily loaded.”

Microsoft’s latest Zune portable media player, the Zune HD, is now available for purchase. 

Many in the tech world are raving about the new player, which boasts a new Tegra mobile processor, a 3.3-inch OLED touchscreen and the ability to output 720p HD video to TVs with an optional dock.

Other features include HD Radio support, built-in Wi-Fi, a web browser, up to 8.5 hours of video playback and wireless syncing. The Zune HD is available in two capacities, 16GB and 32GB. 

We doubt the Zune HD will prove much of a treat to Apple’s iPod touch, irrespective of how well it performs in consumers’ hands.  Microsoft will need a line of winning media players to compete with the ubiquitous iPod.  However, the new Zune may provide some insight into how Microsoft plans to beef up its future Windows Mobile devices’ multimedia experience.
