Blizzard has finally lifted on the veil on the upcoming World of Warcraft: Cataclysm, and the official information generally confirms and fleshes out the sneak preview from last week. The new expansion will feature the corrupted black dragon Deathwing as its principle villain. Once thought buried in the depths below the fortress of Grim Batol, Deathwing has actually spent years within the earthen Elemental Plane, Deepholm. The Cataclysm itself is caused by Deathwing’s ascent and erruption into Azeroth; an event

Microsoft To Prospective Employees: Get In Shape
Anyone who wants to work in one of Microsoft’s new retail stores had better be in pretty good physical shape or start pumping iron now.The job description for sales associates says:Lifting/carrying 75 pounds (loading and unloading all those great products and carrying purchases out for our customers will be required!)A Microsoft employee in the U.K. first noticed this requirement, and then TechFlash dug further and found that store managers need only be able to lift 50 pounds. Retail technical advisors also
Alltel Picks Up RIM’s BlackBerry Tour: $199 With 1-Year Contract
Verizon Wireless and Sprint have already announced plans to ship RIM’s newest BlackBerry (that’d be the Tour), and now Alltel Wireless is jumping in to yell “me too!” Of course, it’s sort of odd for Alltel to waste the marketing dollars here considering that VZW is already showing ads informing the general public that Alltel and Verizon are about to nail down a merge, but we digress. The same CDMA-ready 3G Tour that can be purchased on America’s biggest two CDMA operators is also making a beeline for Alltel shelves
Cable Growing Faster Than Wireless
Although many would guess otherwise, the cable industry is actually growing faster than the wireless sector. This surprising fact comes courtesy of Bernstein Research analyst Craig Moffett. He explains in his latest Weekend Media Blast piece that while subscriber growth in the wireless industry over the last 12 months is up 5.3%, revenue per subscriber is down 1.7%. In terms of revenue growth, the wireless industry is at just 3.6%. By comparison, the cable industry grew revenue per subscriber 4.1% over the same

PS3 To Never, Ever Gain PS2 Backwards Compatibility Again
Sony’s newer, slimmer, sexier PlayStation 3 console is a nice piece of hardware. There’s no doubt that the 120GB hard drive, lower power drain, sleeker look and $299 price tag will draw more than a few folks in, but those holding tight to yesteryear now have reason to pause. Unlike some of the first PS3 machines to hit the market, the new PS3 ‘Slim’ doesn’t support PlayStation 2 titles. Backwards compatibility was a big draw way back when, and even today it’s a hot-button topic. All Xbox 360s still support original
Sorry Twitter, No Trademark for “Tweet”
Nice try. In July Twitter wrote that it was trying to trademark “Tweet.” Not for the reason you might think, though: the request has been provisionally denied on the grounds that other companies had filed for trademarks of very similar words. You might think that “Tweet” was a generic term, and that would be the reason for the denial, but the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) cited other trademark applications by the firms TweetMarks, Cotweet and Tweetphoto, and said there was a “likelihood of confusion.”In
Southwest Airlines To Offer Wi-Fi On More Planes
Gogo Inflight Internet service may be looking forward to big expansion plans in the future, but there’s one airline that’s missing from its growth list: Southwest Airlines. That’s because Southwest Airlines and Row 44 have their own plans to roll out Wi-Fi beginning in the first quarter of 2010. This fall, Southwest will move to the next step of certifying its full fleet with plans to begin fleet wide rollout of the Row 44 satellite service. Southwest has been testing the service on four aircraft since February
