If not, then give hField Technologies’ a look, which has just issued a new long-range Wi-Fi adapter that can supposedly help users maintain a wireless signal from up to 1000 feet away from the router. Apple Blocks Google Voice-Enabled Apps (Incl. Google’s!) From the App Store
We wrote earlier about the new BlackBerry and Android Google Voice apps that Google had released. They offer great functionality, allowing you to dial directly from your phone with your Google Voice number, but there was no iPhone version. Well, we’ll never see it, unless Apple relents.Word comes that Apple has rejected the official Google version of the app. Not only that, it is removing all Google Voice-enabled applications from the App Store. For example, GV Mobile, while currently still listed at AppShopper,
AMD ATI FirePro V8750 Workstation Graphics Card
When doing research for a new graphics card, mainstream users might come across a professional workstation-class video card and wonder what all the fuss is about. On the surface, one must look at the enormous price differences and question the justification when technically the hardware used to build the cards is very similar. But those that use workstation GPUs know that these products carry the driver support for specific 3D rendering programs that mainstream video cards do not. While they both accomplish
Research Firm Believes Strong GPU Market A Sign of New Growth
Jon Peddie Research released its quarterly report on the state of the GPU market today and optimistically forecasts a strong third quarter. The second quarter bucked seasonal trends; sales were up a massive 31.29 percent. That’s in contrast to what we typically see in Q2; over the past eight years sales have usually fallen slightly from Q1-Q2, not shot up. Of the big three, Intel and AMD saw their GPU shipments and market shares increase, while NVIDIA’s own market share took a 0.5 percent hit. Shipments at all

Dell Settles Federal Discrimination Lawsuit
Dell has agreed to settle a lawsuit brought by female employees for $9.1 million. The original case focused on a group of women who were employed at Dell in C1 through D3-level positions. Under the terms of the settlement, Dell will pay $5.6 million to the women in question and will use the other $3.5 million to raise the salaries of currently employed women in the effected employee rankings. Dell is not required to admit wrongdoing as a part of the settlement, though it seems obvious that something fishy was
Ricoh Unveils GR Digital III With Fast Lens
Ricoh may not be the first brand you think of when it comes to digital cameras, but the company has some good offerings. Take the new GR Digital III, for instance. This new camera features a fast 28mm, f/1.9 lens. That’s something you don’t usually see on a point-and-shoot digital camera. The GR Digital III also uses a new 10 megapixel CCD sensor and image processing engine that is designed to reduce noise without loss of resolution or saturation. Another cool feature of the GR Digital III is its burst speed
AT&T Drops Price Of Refurbished iPhone To $49
AT&T used its Twitter page to let us know that it has dropped the price on the refurbished 8GB iPhone 3G to just $49, while supplies last. The Twitter posting suggests visiting att.com to order. The $49 price tag is half the price of an unopened 8GB model. If you’re looking for a 3G capable iPhone and don’t need the faster specs and better camera of the new iPhone 3GS, this could be a good deal. Of course, you’ll still be required to sign up for a two-year contract. AT&T’s site tells us a bit more about
Despite Analyst Agitation, An AMD Atom Is No Answer to Company’s Woes
Several financial analysts have weighed in on AMD’s Q2 performance since the company announced results, and their collective opinion has been anything but good. In the wake of its earnings call, AMD has been taken to task over its failure to provide an answer to Atom (or a netbook processor in general), weak margins, and strong competition from Nehalem and the mainstream parts based on it that will launch in the second half of this year. If you want the full tally, have a look at ZDNet’s report here. A number
