Kingston Gets RAM Validated On Intel’s Core i5
It may not be here as soon as we’d like it (you know, like yesterday), but Intel’s Core i5 platform is definitely on the way. If you needed just one more modicum of proof, have a look at the latest blast from Kingston. Today, one of the mainstays in the memory industry announced that a pair of its 1333MHz DDR3 offerings have already been validated by Intel for “use in its upcoming Core i5 systems.”We hate to read too far between the lines, but if Intel is already validating memory for its Core i5 platform, then
MSI Introduces CX600 & CR600 16-inch Notebooks
MSI added two new 16-inch notebooks to its C Series line. The new CX600 and the CR600 feature clean, minimalistic styling. Kingston 1333MHz DDR3 Memory Validated for Core i5 Platforms by Intel
Kingston Technology Company, Inc., the independent world leader in memory products, today announced two of its 1333MHz DDR3 memory offerings were validated by Intel for use in its upcoming Core i5 systems. The DDR3 1333 Non-ECC modules were validated on Intel P55 Express Chipset based reference platforms using Intel processors, code named Lynnfield, in 2DIMM/channel configurations. pictued below is a picture of Kingston part number KVR1333D3N9/1G, which has been certified.

Kingstons 1333MHz DDR3 non-ECC SO-DIMM (Kingston part#: KVR1333D3S9/1G and 2G modules) was validated on Intels P55 Express Chipset using the Clarksfield mobile processor. The 1333MHz DDR3 non-ECC unbuffered DIMM (part #: KVR1333D3N9/1G) was validated on Intels P55 Express chipset using the Lynnfield processor.
Ballmer Laughs at Google Challenge
Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer laughed off the very idea of Google doing an operating system, much less it being any sort of challenge to Microsoft’s love-it-or-hate-it Windows franchise. Being rather coy, Ballmer called Chrome “Interesting.” In full: “I will be respectful, who knows what this thing is? To me, the Chrome OS thing is highly interesting. It won’t happen for a year and a half and they already announced an operating system.” The last was a reference to Android, Google’s announced operating system for
Worldwide PC shipments decline 5% in 2Q09, says Gartner
Worldwide PC shipments totaled 68.1 million units in the second quarter of 2009, a 5% decline from the second quarter of 2008, according to preliminary results from Gartner. The market performed better than Gartner had expected. In June, Gartner had forecast second quarter PC shipments to decline 9.8%.
“In the first quarter of 2009, inventory re-stocking played a major role in shipment growth, but this was less of a factor in the second quarter,” said Mikako Kitagawa, principal analyst at Gartner. “Though the market was still in decline, the better-than-expected results can be interpreted as a small sign of a PC market recovery in terms of shipment volumes in some regions. PC shipments in Asia Pacific and the US were better than our expectations, while shipments in the Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) region indicated ongoing weakness.”
Marvell SATA 6G chip not ready for P55 launch
Ever since Intel debuted its high-end X58/Core i7 platform last November, there’s been a virtual sea of users pressed against the candy shop windows. DDR3 prices have come down dramatically since Nehalem’s launch, but with X58 motherboards still hovering around $175 and the Core i7 920 at $279, Intel’s latest-and-greatest still commands a significant premium over the Core 2 Duo/Core 2 Quad families. Lynnfield (somewhat erroneously labeled as Core i5) and the accompanying P55 chipset (codenamed Ibex Peak) are
Google Voice Mobile Apps (sans IPhone) Released
Google Voice is great. It gives you a one number that you can give out which rings different phones (or goes straight to voicemail) depending on the caller. You can even call someone and have them see your Google Voice number by calling your Google Voice number, logging in, and pressing 2. Ah, but how much easier would it be if we didn’t need to take that extra step. That’s the point behind these mobile apps. On Wednesday, Google is releasing mobile apps for both Android and BlackBerry. These will allow users
Sony Ericsson Debuts C905a/ W518a Phones On AT&T
These may not be the second-coming of the XPERIA smartphone, but an 8.1MP cellphone isn’t anything to scoff at. Sony Ericsson has just produced two new phones for AT&T’s network, and the first of the two is the 905a Cyber-shot, which packs a mighty sweet camera, detection, autofocus, xenon flash and GPS tagging, not to mention 3G data support. There’s also a 2.4″scratch-resistant mineral glass scree, a Memory Stick Micro (M2) slot, USB port and PictBridge printing support. The second handset is the W518a,
