June 18 News from Around the Web

CoolIT Domino A.L.C. water cooling system review @ Elite Bastards and other reviews from around the web can be found by visiting our forums!

“The Domino itself comes as a single, pre-built unit, and at the forefront of this unit is the cooling system's control panel, complete with LCD screen. This screen shows the current temperature, liquid flow and fan speed of the cooler, as well as which of the three preset cooling modes the device is set to. These modes can be cycled using the small button on the right-hand side of this panel, while the LCD screen is designed to be visible in cases with a side panel window – If you don't have such a window, then you'll have to live without seeing this display I'm afraid.”

EVGA Bigfoot Networks Killer Xeno Pro Review

Bigfoot Networks generated quite a bit of buzz back in 2006 when the company launched the original Killer NIC M1. As many of you probably remember, the original Killer NIC was / is a PCI-based device that featured an on-board network processor, or NPU, that was supposedly able to lower in-game ping times and free up CPU resources, which in turn could increase framerates. The Killer NIC performed these duties by bypassing the Windows networking stack through the use of custom software and offloading network related

EVGA Launches Two Single PCB GTX 295 Cards

Trumping other NVIDIA partners on launch date, EVGA has announced its new single-PCBdual-GPU GTX 295 graphics cards. The new NVIDIA card design joins both GPUs on the same PCB, saving some serious green on that almighty bill-of-materials. The redesigned dual-GPU card still packs the same punch in most aspects – it is still based on the GT200b chip but in this case EVGA opted not to go reference with the card cooling. A quick reminder, the original GTX 295 came with 576MHz core clock, 1242MHz shader, 2000MHz

Super Talent Unveils MasterDrive SX SSDs

Super Talent Technology today launched a new line of MasterDrive SX SSDs that incorporate 128MB of DRAM cache and reach new performance levels in high performance laptops. The MasterDrive SX is based on an advanced new 8-channel controller and MLC NAND Flash. Its 8-channel architecture combined with a hefty 128MB of DRAM cache takes full advantage of the 3Gbps SATA-II bandwidth. The MasterDrive SX is capable of sequential read speeds up to 220 MB/sec and sequential write speeds up to 200 MB/sec. MasterDrive SX SSDs are available now in capacities up to 256GB through NewEgg. Street prices for the 128GB drive are around $359.

Super Talent MasterDrive SX SSD

A great advance in the MasterDrive SX is its power efficiency. The drive sips a mere half a watt of power in read mode, and 0.15 watts while idle. That's considerably lower than typical notebook hard drives, and even lower than the vast majority of 2.5-inch SSDs. The benefits to users are less fan noise and longer battery life.

Acer expects desktop shipments to grow on year

Acer expects its desktop shipments to see growth on year, as it gains customers from the DIY market, according to Scott Lin, president of Acer Taiwan.

Lin pointed out that the proportion of the DIY segment in the total desktop PC market dropped from 60-70% to around 50% in 2008, and the proportion continues to be eaten into by pre-built systems. Although Acer suffered an on-year drop in desktop shipments in the first quarter of 2009, Lin said he believes full-year shipments could be higher than the 8.13 million units shipped in 2008.
