OCZ Announces The Agility 2.5 Solid State Drives

OCZ Technology today released the OCZ Agility SATA II 2.5 Solid State Drive (SSD) Series, an affordable offering for mainstream notebook and desktop users demanding the latest technology in this fast-developing sector of the storage market. OCZ continues to place solid state technology within reach of the average consumer, and delivers on the promise of SSDs as an alternative to traditional hard drives in consumer targeted mobile and desktop applications. The Agility Series will join the lineup as the latest solution for mainstream users including professionals, students, gamers, and enthusiasts on a budget. OCZ has informed Legit Reviews that this drive uses an Indilinix barefoot controller, has 64MB of cache, and is priced to move.

  • 30(32)GB OCZSSD2-1AGT30G is $129.99
  • 60(64)GB OCZSSD2-1AGT60G is $219.99
  • 120(120)GB OCZSSD2-1AGT120G is $349.99

That means the OCZ Agility SSD is priced just below the OCZ Vertex as the 120GB Vertex MLC drive runs $355 shipped at Newegg. After speaking with OCZ for the second time tonight it seems the Vertex uses Samsung MLC NAND and that the Agility uses non-Samsung MLC NAND. That is the only difference and since Samsung faster and more expensive the Agility will be priced slightly lower with lower speed ratings. This is a very interesting move if you ask us.

The Agility Series is the result of all the latest breakthroughs in SSD technology, including an efficient controller design, speedy 230MB/sec read and 135MB/sec write speeds, along with 64MB of cache.
