Fusion-io is a company name that has become synonymous with high-priced but ridiculously fast Solid State Storage solutions. Unfortunately for those without loads of disposable income, the outfit’s newest creation still isn’t budget-friendly, but it’s certainly cheaper than Fusion-io’s other enterprise-based wares. Announced at E3 last week alongside the world’s most well-know professional gamer — Mr. Johnathan “Fatal1ty” Wendel — the ioXtreme is described as a solid state storage device for high-performance
Some Palm Pres Exhibiting Screen Distortion
While many have marveled at the screen on the Palm Pre, some which knowledge have said that getting the screen “just right” is part of the reason for the limited stock on the device. Users in at least two Palm Pre forums have noted screen distortion or blotchiness on their new purchases. It should be noted that Apple has had issues with past versions of the iPhone as well, ranging from cracking cases to its own screen complaints. So don’t slam Palm yet. On the other hand, there are also reports of crashes (but
HP: Shut Your PC Down For Mother Earth’s Sake!
You might not expect Hewlett-Packard, a massive force in the realm of personal computers, to encourage users to not use their PCs, but in a sense, that’s exactly what it’s doing. The company has recently launched a new Power To Change initiative that encourages PC owners to “make behavioral changes in support of the environment.” So, just what are those changes? Namely, its to “download a new desktop widget that tracks the cumulative energy savings associated with participants turning off idle PCs when not in
Americans And Social Networks Becoming BFFs
Twitter is huge. Facebook is enormous. MySpace is still a serious powerhouse. The bottom line? Social networks are a force to be reckoned with, and Americans are spending lots and lots of time on them. In a new study released this week, Nielsen reveled that United States citizens are spending more time than over on these sites. In fact, it found that the number of minutes that Americans spent on these sites doubled (doubled!) in the past year. Crazier still, Nielsen Online discovered that “the number of minutes
Nuvifone Launch Getting Closer
Garmin plans to start selling its oft-delayed nuvifone in Asia in late June or early July, Chief Operating Officer Cliff Pemble told shareholders at the company’s recent annual meeting. Unfortunately for the rest of us, Pemble said a release date for North America and Europe is still on hold. In response to a question from an investor, Pemble did say, “We believe we’re getting very close.” As you may recall, the nuvifone is a touch-screen smartphone that includes features from Garmin’s line of GPS devices such
MainGear Green Ion Gaming PC Unleashed
Hot on the heels of Computex 2009, luxury PC maker Maingear is launching a new system labeling it as “the world’s greenest gaming PC”. They’re calling it the Ion Pulse – but it isn’t Nvidia’s Ion at all. With green being the flavour of the week – in more ways than one – Maingear chucked a Zotac mini-ITX coupled it with a Core 2 Duo or Quad (s-Series) processor and choice of single HDD or SSD storage. Memory is limited to two DDR2-800 slots, but Zotac says you could slip in a couple of OCZ’s DDR2-1066 SLI-profile
The Pre Debuts, to Long Lines
June 6th, 2009, the 65th anniversary of the D-Day invasion of Normandy in WWII, and quite possibly D-Day for Palm, as it introduced its new Palm Pre and Palm Web OS at Sprint stores, Best Buys, and Radio Shacks nationwide. Despite the assertions by Palm and Sprint that they didn’t want long lines, they got ’em, and sold out at many stores as well. Lines were nowhere near as long as those for the iPhone and iPhone 3G launches, however, but purchasers were still happy with their new devices. Peter Lewis, who bought

ZeeVee Adds Mac Compatibility To Zinc Viewer
ZeeVee, the online viewing portal that’s giving the likes of Hulu a real run for their money, has just announced compatibility with yet another major platform: OS X. The Massachusetts-based company has just let loose its highly anticipated Mac client of Zinc, which is a GUI of sorts that places a boatload of internet TV channels at your fingertips. Designed to be used in full-screen mode on your computer monitor or even on a living room TV, Zinc Beta 3 for Mac doesn’t look any different than the software for
BenQ Android Phone & Netbook Planned for 2010
BenQ, the company’s whose mobile division filed for bankruptcy two years ago, is attempting a comeback by unveiling its intentions to launch an Android based smartphone and netbook sometime next year. The announcement means BenQ is now part of a growing list of companies that are either making or planning to make smartphones and mini-laptops based on the Android OS. BenQ is not new to the smartphone world. The company already has Symbian and Windows Mobile handsets such as the E72 shown here. Assuming the new
