Mobile gamers, the bar has just been raised. For weeks now, Dell/Alienware have been teasing a new gaming notebook that was said to be “All Powerful.” One thing’s for sure now that the company has made it official: it’s amongst the most powerful we’ve ever seen. Utilizing no fewer than three NVIDIA GeForce GPUs, the 17″ M17x is — at least according to Dell — the “most powerful laptop in the universe.”Without question, this is also one of the largest notebooks known to man, with a starting weight of nearly
GlobalFoundries shows 45nm Istanbul, 32nm SOI, 28nm SRAM Bulk
GlobalFoundries is a little known independent silicon manufacturer that spun off from AMD in March of this year. They are responsible for taking care of the manufacturing operations at Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. (AMD), so basically the old AMD fabs are now known as GlobalFoundries. It seems that GlobalFoundries had a meeting in Taiwan today with the media showing off new and upcoming technologies that will soon be offered to customers other than just AMD. GlobalFoundries is here to make a profit, so no longer will it be just AMD products being made there.

At the press conference GlobalFoundries had a few wafers on hand and one of them was the 45nm AMD Istanbul wafer! Yes, that would be the upcoming six-core processor! These wafers are being buit at Fab 1 Module 1 in Dresden, Germany. If you look at the Istanbul wafer below you can actually see the six cores per chip! If that isn't far out enough GlobalFoundries also showed off 28nm technology on a wafer of SRAM Bulk and said that it will be ready for the market in late 2010/early 2011 and that GlobalFoundries will be taking orders for 28nm in early 2010. The 28nm technology will also be the 3rd generation of immersion lithography and 2nd generation High-K metal gate design. People in the industry are looking forward to the 28nm process for video cards… The future is looking good!!
Project Natal a Reality: a Wiimote Sans Remote
The Nintendo Wii’s Wiimote has brought innovation to gaming, by allowing players to swing a tennis racket, a baseball bat, and perform other gaming motions while holding the Wiimote. But what if you didn’t need to hold a controller at all? Enter Project Natal. On Monday, at the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3), Microsoft unveiled a number of things, but the most interesting, to me, was Project Natal. Rumored for several months, as opposed to a controller, it’s a sensor, that allows you to make gaming moves
Corsair Cooling Hydro Series H50 CPU Cooler Will Be $79
This afternoon we made a news post about the new Corsair Cooling Hydro Series H50 high-performance CPU cooler. Now that the day has settled down we have managed to hear back from Corsair about pricing and even have a nifty little YouTube video to share with you about the water cooler. The Corsair Cooling Hydro Series H50 high-performance CPU cooler is going to retail for $79 with availablty by the end of June from Corsair authorized resellers. The press release was also published this afternoon and it clearly states that this cooler was developed in conjunction with Asetek, so thanks to all those who sent me e-mails telling me it looked like an Asetek re-badge.
Working in concert with ASEtek, a worldwide leader in liquid cooling systems for high-performance computing, Corsair has developed an easy-to-install CPU cooling solution that outperforms stock CPU coolers by more than 30%. Utilizing a copper CPU cooling plate and integrated pump connected to a 120mm radiator and high-efficiency, low-noise fan, the Hydro Series H50 delivers superior cooling for higher overclocking performance and greater stability. Unlike traditional liquid-cooling solutions, the H50 is a closed-loop system that is supplied prefilled and fully connected using low permeability tubing to virtually eliminate evaporation and leaking.
AMD Athlon II X2 250 and Phenom II X2 550 Processors
Today, AMD is announcing not one, but two new exciting 45nm dual-cores! First, they are introducing the first-ever Athlon II processor. To top that off they are releasing a Phenom II X2 550 Processor that runs at 3.1GHz with a massive 6MB of shared L3 cache. Read on to see what these processors are all about!
Windows 7 Starter to Remove 3 App Limit
One of the biggest limitations to the Starter editions of Windows XP and Windows Vista is being able to run only 3 concurrent applications on a PC at a time (excluding background processes such as anti-virus software, wireless and Bluetooth, and system tools like Explorer and Control Panel). As Windows 7 Starter is going to be available on many netbooks, Microsoft has wisely decided to remove that limitation on its upcoming operating system. Despite that change, there will still be many limitations to
NVIDIA Debuts 21 Ion-Based Products At Computex
Now that the doors have flung wide open at Computex, it’s time for the likes of NVIDIA to get down to business. With Intel and AMD announcing rather large launches this evening, it’s only fair for NVIDIA to toot its own horn as well. After jointly introducing the world’s first Ion-based netbook last week with Lenovo, the graphics maker has chosen the stage in Taiwan to introduce 21 “new” products that utilize the firm’s nForce Ion graphics set.Granted, we’ve actually heard of some of these — Acer’s Aspire Revo,
Qualcomm WCN1312 to Bring 802.11n Wi-Fi to Mobiles

High-speed 802.11n Wi-Fi may soon be available on Windows Mobile Smartphones and other mobile devices thanks to Qualcomm’s new WCN1312 wireless chip.
“The new WCN1312 chip uses low-power 65nm CMOS technology and advanced power-management techniques to minimize sleep, standby and active power consumption. It is optimized for performance with Qualcomm’s complete Mobile Station Modem(TM) (MSM(TM)) solutions and supports a variety of mobile operating systems, including Qualcomm’s Brew Mobile Platform(R), Android and Windows Mobile. The WCN1312 chip is the industry’s first mobile handset device to support both 1×1 and 1×2 dual-receive configurations to increase range and data throughput performance when needed. The WCN1312 solution also implements advanced coexistence architecture and algorithms to optimize performance when paired with Qualcomm’s Bluetooth(R) solutions.” [Source: PRNewsWire]
The WCN1312 will hopefully begin showing up in Windows Mobile, Android and other handsets in Q4 2009.
Computex: Intel Debuts New Core 2 Duo, ULV CPUs
Computex has up in full swing over in Taipei, and while we’ve already heard news from a few outfits, we have yet to see anything substantial from Intel. Until now. Today, the company is launching quite a few new products, with a trio of new Core 2 Duo processors leading the way. The T9900, P9700 and P8800 are all being debuted alongside the new Intel Pentium ULV SU2700 and Mobile GS40 Express Chipset. To be completely candid, we would’ve much rather seen new
AMD Athlon II and Phenom II X2 Processors Debut
AMD is using the prominence of the Computex show in Taipei to unveil a slew of new, affordable desktop processors. A few of them are based on the existing core employed within their Phenom II processor line-up, but one of them is comprised of a new piece of silicon that pays homage to the once mighty Athlon brand. We’ve got four new AMD processors on tap for this article, low power quad- and triple-cores, and a pair of new dual-cores. The 3.1GHz AMD Phenom II X2 550 Black Edition is positioned as AMD’s fastest
