Intel previews Xeon Nehalem-EX processor

Intel has previewed a new Intel Xeon processor codenamed Nehalem-EX designed for expandable high-end Intel server platforms, which the chipmaker claims will deliver a number of new technical advancements and boost enterprise computing performance. In production later in 2009, the Nehalem-EX processor will feature up to eight cores inside a single chip supporting 16 threads and 24MB of cache.

Ideal for server consolidation, virtualized applications, data demanding enterprise applications and technical computing environments, Nehalem-EX will offer up to nine times the memory bandwidth of the previous-generation Intel Xeon 7400 platform. Nehalem-EX will also double memory capacity with up to 16 memory slots per processor socket, and offer four high-bandwidth QuickPath Interconnect links, noted Intel. Nehalem-EX will provide scalability, from large-memory two-socket systems through eight-socket systems capable of processing 128 threads simultaneously without the need for third-party chips, Intel highlighted.

QNAP Announces 2.5-inch and 3.5-inch SATA HDD TS-219P Turbo

QNAP Systems today announces the first 2-bay network-attached storage (NAS) which supports both 2.5-inch and 3.5-inch SATA hard drives – TS-219P Turbo NAS. Dedicated to home and SOHO users, the TS-219P is an advanced version of the previously released TS-219. Powered by a Marvell 1.2GHz high performance processor and 512 MB DDRII memory, the NAS comes with 3 USB ports and 2 eSATA ports to deliver the best storage expansion capability compared with other 2-bay NAS in the market.

Qnap TS-219P Turbo NAS

“The TS-219P Turbo NAS is the advanced version of the previously announced TS-219 from QNAP. The TS-219P features iSCSI target service and is released with the latest Turbo NAS firmware version 3.0 to bring the best user experience with the CoverFlow-like AJAX-based user interface,” says Laurent Cheng, Product Manager from QNAP. “Also, the NAS supports both 2.5-inch and 3.5-inch SATA hard drives. By installing the low power and low vibration 2.5-inch hard drives, the power consumption of the NAS is largely reduced. It is a silent and energy-saving storage solution for home and SOHO users.”
