Intel Unveils Nehalem-EX Octal-Core Server CPU

Intel just held a press conference in which the company spoke about its next-generation server processor, currently code-named Nehalem-EX. As its name suggests, the Nehalem-EX is based on the Nehalem microarchitecture which debuted with the Xeon 5500 and Core i7 series processors. The Nehalem-EX series however, will be decidedly more high-end in terms of specifications and performance. Windows Vista SP2 available for Download

In March of 2008 Microsoft released the Windows Vista SP1. Over a year later you are now treated to the next stand-alone Vista Service Pack. Vista SP2 has been already available to MSDN and TechNet subscribers, but now it is available to all. The new update has a ton of improvements, so I'll just list a few of them and you can read the rest here.

  • SP2 adds support for the 64-bit central processing unit (CPU) from VIA Technologies, which adds the ID and vendor strings for the new VIA 64-bit CPU.
  • SP2 integrates the Windows Vista Feature Pack for Wireless, which contains support for Bluetooth v2.1 and Windows Connect Now (WCN) Wi-Fi Configuration. Bluetooth v2.1 is the most recent specification for Bluetooth wireless technology.
  • SP2 improves performance for Wi-Fi connections after resuming from sleep mode.
  • SP2 includes updates to the RSS feeds sidebar for improved performance and responsiveness.
  • SP2 includes ability to record data to Blu-Ray Disc media.

Service Pack 2 (SP2) for Windows Vista and for Windows Server 2008 supports new kinds of hardware and emerging hardware standards. HP iPAQ K3 Coming to AT&T Running Windows Mobile 6.5

It’s been a long time since we’ve had any rock-solid, exciting iPAQ news to bring you.  You can judge for yourself how exciting this is, but we think it’s pretty cool.

HP will release a new iPAQ smartphone later this year, the iPAQ K3 “Obsidian,” and unlike its most recent devices, the K3 will be sold directly by a U.S. wireless carrier: AT&T Mobility. 

The iPAQ K3 will also run Windows Mobile 6.5, which is due out later this year.  It has a flush QVGA touchscreen display, 512MB of onboard flash memory, a microSDHC memory card slot, onboard GPS, and Wi-Fi.  With the inclusion of Windows Mobile 6.5, there’s little need for a stylus, and HP has decided to leave one out.

No word yet on pricing, but according to the product slide obtained by Engadget (which is the source for all of our current K3 information), the iPAQ K3 will be released by AT&T in November.
