Samsung Jack Windows Mobile Smartphone Coming to AT&T on May 19th

Samsung Jack

AT&T will release the Samsung Jack, a Windows Mobile 6.1 Standard (non-touchscreen) Smartphone, on May 19th. The SGH-i637 Jack is a replacement for the current (and aging) BlackJack II.

The Samsung Jack is a feature packed handset: 528MHz CPU, 256MB of RAM, HSDPA mobile broadband, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, aGPS, and a 3MP digital camera.  With a new two-year service agreement, the Jack will set you back just $99. The best news is that the Jack is ready for a Windows Mobile 6.5 upgrade when it becomes available later this year.

We’re big fans of Samsung’s Windows Mobile Smartphones here at Pocket PC Central; the BlackJack II, Epix and Saga all scored well in reviews.  So, as you might imagine, we are looking forward to taking the Jack for a spin.

Sony reports $1B annual loss, first in 14 years

Sony Corp. reported its first annual net loss in 14 years and forecast a bigger loss this year, saying the pressure from sliding sales, competition in gadget prices and a strong yen was expected to continue.

The Japanese electronics and entertainment company said Thursday it lost 165 billion yen ($1.72 billion) in the January-March quarter, compared to a 29 billion yen profit for the same period the previous year. That brought its full fiscal year loss to a 98.9 billion yen ($1 billion). Sony, which makes Bravia flat-panel TVs and Cyber-shot digital cameras, said it is closing three plants in Japan to help turn its business around. It is also in the midst of cutting 16,000 workers.

Anti-Piracy Legislation Passes French Senate

It only took a month after the fiasco that prevented the HADOPI legislation from passing for the French Assembly and Senate to regroup, and on Wednesday HADOPI, the “three strikes” anti-piracy legislation passed the French Senate.  It had passed the French National Assembly on Tuesday. The fiasco we reference above occurred when overconfidence set in, and only a few MPs showed up for the April vote on the same legislation.  It was defeated in the Assembly then 21 – 15, though it passed on Tuesday 296

Super Talent UltraDrive ME 120GB MLC SSD FTM28GX25H @ Benchmark Reviews and other reviews from around the web can be found by visiting our forums!

Performance enthusiasts have been keeping notes on SSD technology for a while now, and until recently the price and performance of Solid State Drives were not within reach for casual consumers. SSD products are quickly moving mainstream, and former marketing points like power consumption is now the least impressive of all benefits a Solid State Drive delivers. The real payoff is in the practically instant response time and high-performance throughput. Capacity and stuttering were once the only problems keeping SSDs from replacing HDDs, but now it's just capacity. Quick to solve that problem, Super Talent now offers their 512GB MasterDrive RX SSD which provides capacity matched to performance.
The Super Talent UltraDrive ME adds 64MB of Elpida DRAM to the buffer has permanently solved stuttering problems, making raw performance the last bottleneck. An Indilinx 'Barefoot' internal controller commands the bank of Samsung K9HCG08U1M DRAM modules, allowing the UltraDrive ME SSD to offer an impressive capacity with top-speed performance. Benchmark Reviews tests the reaction time and bandwidth performance for the FTM28GX25H 120GB model against over two dozen other products in this article.

Asus Intros Audiophile Xonar DS 7.1 Sound Card

While not quite as exciting as Asus’ bevy of new notebooks this morning, the newest card in the growing Xonar line will certainly tantalize those scouting an audiophile-level sound device. The Xonar DS 7.1 Channel Audio Card gets back to the basics by ditching the HDMI output on the Xonar HDAV1.3 and offering up the more traditional 3.5mm jack array. Unlike most cards, this one packs a 107dB signal-to-noise ratio, which supposedly eliminates 91% of background noise. Asus also integrates the GX 2.5 audio engine,

Slingplayer Crippled (Mobile) Hits the App Store

Slingplayer Mobile for the iPhone has reached the App Store, or rather, finally been approved for the App Store but — and here’s the rub — in a somewhat different (and some would say crippled) form than beta. Beta versions of the app allowed operation under wi-fi, EDGE and 3G (not that anyone would want to use EDGE). The released version was reportedly delayed to allow the removal of EDGE and 3G support. But AT&T’s official response brings up the spectre of all those iPhone 3G issues from last year,

Hardcore Phenom II Overclocking–6.2GHz Anyone?

Earlier today, Gigabyte sent us a link to a video featuring some hardcore overclocking that we thought many of you would like to see. In the video, Chew*, a member of the XtremeSystems community, overclocks an AMD Phenom II X4 955 processor on GIGABYTE GA-MA790FXT-UD5P and GA-MA790FX-UD5P motherboards, and shows his results using air, phase change, dry ice, and liquid nitrogen cooling. When all was said and done, Chew* was able to break 3DMark06 records for dual Radeon HD 4850s and 4890s running in CrossFire
