Intel’s Chairman Urges Tech Innovation At CeBIT

Intel has maintained a relatively low profile at CeBIT this year in terms of new product announcements, but there are still plenty of Intel chips to be found at the expo. The chip maker is apparently looking to keep it that way for years to come, with Chairman Craig Barrett today urging the technology industry at large and nations around the world to “innovate and invest” in order to boost economic development and solve global challenges. Speaking to an audience at CeBIT 2009, Barrett — who has announced his

HTC Maple Sports Great Key Layout & Trackball

HTC MapleWe’re huge fans of Messenger-class smartphones — phones with a QWERTY keyboard, hardware controls and a display, all on the unit’s face.  Until recently, RIM focused exclusively on this design, and we believe this has been a huge part of the BlackBerry’s success.

HTC, the most productive member of the Windows Mobile partners’ club, on the other hand, has shied away from this design, releasing only the HTC Excalibur (T-Mobile Dash) in the U.S since 2006.

But the Dash’s reign as the lone HTC Messenger smartphone may soon be over.

CNet Germany has posted photos of the HTC Maple, a new Windows Mobile messenger that features a spacious keyboard, a trackball and the Standard, non-touchscreen version of Windows Mobile.

Details on the HTC Maple are scarce, but we’ll keep you updated with new information as it is released.

Celebrate Square Root Day (No, Seriously)

Hot on the heels of “1234567890” day comes Square Root Day. This rare “holiday” occurs when the day and the month are both the square root of the last two digits of the current year. So, today can be expressed as 03/03/09 (in Europe or the U.S., for once!). 3 is the square root of 9, so you can see how today would be Square Root Day. The last Square Root Day was (quite obviously) in 2004 … 2/2/04 or Groundhog Day, in fact. The next one is 7 years off in 2016 or 4/4/16. While there’s no luck or superstition
