Rah! The U.S. is #1 (Sort of) in Broadband
While many have griped, complained (you name it) over the sad state of U.S. broadband, particularly when compared with other countries, some have said it’s all a bunch of “hooey.” A report released by economic consulting firm LECG, commissioned by Nokia Siemens Networks would tend to agree with that, putting the U.S. at #1 in broadband — with caveats. This placement assumes you use the so-called “Connectivity Scorecard,” which measures a number of items unrelated to broadband as part of its ranking system.

Microsoft Backtracks on Overpaid Severance
As we wrote previously, Microsoft over — and underpaid — a number of the 1,400 workers it recently laid-off. After a wave of criticism which occurred after Microsoft asked for the, ahem, overpayment back, Microsoft caved in. Microsoft human resources chief Lisa Brummel said the company had changed course. Twenty-five workers were overpaid and about twenty underpaid, Microsoft said. “I thought it didn’t make sense for us to continue on the path we were on. I have called now 22 out of the 25 impacted employees,
Xbox Live Gold Members to Receive More Benefits
There are plenty of reasons to be an Xbox Live Gold member—you can game online, get demos early, etc. Now, Microsoft is now offering yet another incentive to attract new Xbox Live Gold-level members and to keep existing members: There will be weekly sales on content for Gold members. Samsung Intros TL320 And HZ15W 12MP Cameras
Samsung just got done introducing four new point and shoot models last week, and now it’s already busy again announcing two more. Both new ones are 12 megapixel shooters that can easily slip into your pocket, and while the styling is classically Samsung, the features here are somewhat unique. The TL320 features a Schneider lens along with a 24mm ultra-wide angle focal length and a 5x optical zoom. Furthermore, it incorporates a three-inch, 460,000-dot HVGA AMOLED screen, which — according to Samsung — is the
Could the iPhone become A Geotagging Assistant?
As it stands right now, the GPS capabilities of the iPhone can only be used by active applications. This prohibits the iPhone from being used as a geotagging assistant or tracking device. However, Apple may be working on functionality for the iPhone that can track your location in the background. A hint that this functionality may be in the works comes from iPhoto ’09, which shows traces of being able to associate such GPS log data with photos. By logging your location in the background, the iPhone could provide
DDR3 Round-Up: Memory Performance With The Core
There’s quite a lot of variance in DDR3 modules today, which can certainly be overwhelming for potential new buyers. While the Core i7 processor is officially rated to run at only DDR3-1066 speeds, modules that can run at DDR3-2000 or even higher are available for the Core i7, and many new motherboards support speeds even greater than these. There is also the introduction of huge 12 GB (6 x 2 GB modules) capacity kits to consider, and we have latencies in the CAS 7 to CAS 9 range, all of which affect pricing
