While we would expect a barrage of new CPU announcements from someone like Intel or AMD, it’s been ARM of late pushing out the new silicon. Just days after showcasing its first 32 nanometer chip, the company responsible for the Cortex line has announced the smallest, lowest power and most energy-efficient ARM processor available. The Cortex-M0 is capable of consuming as little as 85 microwatts/MHz (0.085 milliwatts) in an area of under 12K gates when using the ARM 180ULL cell library, and if ARM is to be believed,

Seagate Drops Patent Suit Against STEC
Last April, Seagate sued SSD manufacturer STEC, charging that STEC had violated four of its patents relating to error correction, memory-backup systems, and storage interfaces with computers. However, late last week STEC announced that Seagate had dropped its lawsuit against the company. The lawsuit was dropped after “extensive discovery and evaluation of STEC’s intellectual property and technology.” No money was exchanged and no licensing of technology occurred. In other words, Seagate realized it made a mistake.
MS: You’re Laid Off. Oh, You Owe Us Some $, Too
Perhaps Microsoft used Excel when they calculated the severance packages of some of the 1,400 workers they recently laid off. At any rate, apparently they made some errors, and are now asking some of those laid-off workers for some of their severance package back. According to a report by TechCrunch, the letters have been sent to more than one person, and it appears some may have even been underpaid. However, no one has been informed as to what went wrong in the calculations (at least via the letter; see below

The world’s favorite VoIP calling application is making a beeline for your next Nokia handset, and believe it or not, that’s perfectly okay with Nokia. Sony Shutting Down San Fran PlayStation Store
It’s the end of an era, so to speak. With Sony suffering a Q4 that even the most bitter rival wouldn’t wish on its competitors, the company has seen fit to shut the doors on its US flagship PlayStation store in San Francisco, California. With company sales in the dumps and some 16,000 Sony jobs already on the way out, the corporation has decided it best to not renew its lease on the PlayStation Store in the Metreon retail center when it expires on June 16th. Sony spokeswoman Liz Archibald said of the closing:
Norway Tries to Get IE6 Dumped
Whenever we look at browser stats from various market research firms, we’re surprised by the number of Internet Explorer 6 users there still are. Apparently annoyed by all these users who seemingly still having joined the “tabbed” browser generation, a prominent Norwegian Web site is fostering a movement kick IE6 to the curb. FINN.no, which calls itself Norway’s biggest online market place, has started a campaign against IE6. In their press release (.PDF) about the campaign, they emphasize it is not an anti-Microsoft
Power-Saving Pixel Qi LCDs Ready To Ship
You may have never heard of Pixel Qi, but we’ll wager that you’ve heard of One Laptop Per Child. Mary Lou Jepsen, the company’s founder and CEO, left OLPC in 2007 in order to focus on creating her own $75 laptop using technologies she invented at OLPC. Needless to say, the departure was quite controversial in its day, but now the company has moved on to focusing specifically on creating low-power displays. Just days ago, the outfit admitted that it was ready to “soon start shipping” low-power screens that increase
