Spore’s DRM = Class-Action Lawsuit for EA

Spore is a critically-acclaimed game, but (at least by users) its DRM has been universally panned. Many of those who know anything about the SecuROM copy protection used in the game don’t want it near their computers, unless they absolutely have to. And while Electronic Arts (EA) has “loosened things up” slightly, the DRM has spawned thousands of negative reviews at Amazon.com and protest creatures. And now, it has birthed a class action lawsuit (.PDF). The lawsuit was filed on Sept. 22nd by Melissa Thomas,

NVIDIA Announces Partnership with MotionDSP

Some news just came across the wire regarding a strategic partnership being formed between NVIDIA and a company called MotionDSP.  If you’re unfamiliar with MotionDSP, the company has created custom software that decodes video files, extracts large amounts of data from dozens of video frames, filters the video using custom algorithms, and then re-constructs a new video which combines all the new data and enhanced frames.  The end result is a final video that is of much higher quality

F@H - 4,500+ Points a Day w/ a $49 GeForce 9600 GSO

When the NVIDIA GeForce 9600 GSO was originally released in April of 2008 it was priced slightly lower than the GeForce 9600 GT as it had lower clock speeds, but oddly enough it came with more shader processors. The EVGA e-GeForce 9600 GSO Dual-Slot Edition had an MSRP of $164.99 when it first came out, but is now just $49 after rebate and boy can it fold!

Diamond Multimedia President Shows Radeon HD 3870 Resistor Fix

Following a conversation with Diamond Multimedia president Bruce Zaman, I was sent a detailed picture that shows where a Zero Ohm value resistor needs to be added to the board to resolve the problem the Alienware systems are seeing. Bruce assured Legit Reviews that only Alienware systems are impacted by this as they had a sku that was different from the retail graphics cards. Diamond Multimedia has been very open about the issue that was leaked out recently and I really like how they have handled the entire situation. Diamond knows what is causing the issues and has fixed it. If you have an Alienware system that has a Diamond Radeon HD 3870-512MB DDR4 you might want to check it and make sure it has a resistor where the arrow below it pointing. If it doesn't you should contact Alienware and get it RMA'd.

HD3870 card failing with 750W PSU. Lower quality resistor in diamond card
causing failure, not on original reference design which we signed up for.

4th Gen iPod Nano Review @ Pocket PC Central

Much of this year’s iPod news was a snore: a curvier iPod touch, a new one-capacity iPod Classic, the umpteenth iPod shuffle color jumble. Yawn. But the fourth and final updated iPod, the new 4th Generation (4G) iPod nano, caught our eye. It’s small. It’s light. It’s sexy. And, with the 4G iPod nano, Apple has righted itself after a design misstep.
