NVISION 08 Day 2: Keynote, NASA, Kyle Busch…

The second day of NVIDIA’s NVISION 08 visual computing conference began with a keynote address hosted by local television personality and tech analyst Scott Budman.  Budman only did a relatively small amount of speaking at the engagement, however, as he shared the stage with a number of guest speakers, including Eileen Collins of NASA, Lorne Lanning, NASCAR’s Kyle Busch, and Bernard Charles. We have all the coverage for you here…

Houston, We Have Virus Lift-Off

Surprisingly, this apparently isn’t the first time this has happened to NASA. They haven’t, to this point, been using antivirus software on the laptops astronauts take into space with them. A lesson for us all? Yep. However, the virus wasn’t something that would bring the ISS crashing to Earth. The W32.Gammima.AG worm is pretty old: discovered last August. Since it targets passwords to various online games, and the lag from the ISS would be pretty bad, it’s safe to say that the astronauts weren’t doing anything

Samsung Introduces SSDs for Low-Cost PCs

“Smaller, faster, less expensive,” might just be the motto over at Samsung these days. At least that’s what it feels like with Samsung’s announcement today that it has started sampling low-density, multilevel cell (MLC)-based solid state drives (SSDs) that are “only 30 percent of the size of 2.5-inch SSDs,” “higher performance,” and “highly cost-efficient to manufacture.” Samsung is aiming these low-capacity drives at the burgeoning low-cost PC market. Starting next month, Samsung will start mass-producing 8GB,

Taiwan government to use up current budget allocated for WiMAX industry in 2009

The Taiwan government's current budget appropriated for the development of the WiMAX industry will be completely used up in 2009, according to Chen Chao-yi, director general of the Industrial Development Bureau (IDB) under the Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA).

The investment spent thus far has enabled Taiwan makers to expand their production to include WiMAX base stations with a possibility of entering the development of total solutions for the 4G telecoms industry, in addition to WiMAX CPE (customer premise equipment) products, Chen stated. WiMAX technology will continue to play an important role in the 4G industry even though LTE (Long Term Evolution) technology is seemingly more likely to emerge as the mainstream 4G standard, Chen asserted.
