Study Shows Interior Network Protection Lacking

A recent survey of IT professionals reveals that just under half of them (45 percent) were either “not confident or only slightly confident” that they were aware of all the endpoints connecting to their organizations’ networks. Perhaps not surprisingly, half of the respondents were also concerned that a security breach on their organizations’ networks could jeopardize their employment or that of some of their staff. The study was sponsored by Mirage Networks, a Network Access Control (NAC) provider, and included

NVISION 08 – Thermaltake SpinQ CPU Cooler Pictured

Thermaltake just got in the very first SpinQ CPU cooler in the United States and has it on display here at NVISION 08. This new CPU cooler is entirely made out of aluminum and has a very neat look to it with the spiral fin design and 8cm fan. Not too much to say about this as it isn't known and there is nothing about it on the Thermaltake site other than this You Tube video.

Gigabyte GA-X58-DS4 Motherboard Pictured – Intel X58 Express Chipset

The upcoming Intel X58 Express chipset supports Socket 1366 Nehalem Core i7 processors and while in San Jose this week I managed to catch a peak at this board from Gigabyte and took a couple pictures. The motherboard is labeled GA-X58-Extreme, but it might be a GA-X58-DS4, which is a cut down and cheaper version. There isn't too much information about this board as it is the first one in the United States and we basically just saw it in passing.

The World’s Largest Cyber Heist… Or Not

Scotland’s Sunday Herald reported this last weekend that the world’s largest cyber-heist ever recorded had taken place, with approximately eight million people’s identities stolen. The target was the Best Western Hotel group, the culprit was “an unknown Indian hacker,” the accomplices were “an underground network operated by the Russian mafia,” and the estimated haul could be worth “more than £2.8billion [$5.15 billion USD)] in illegal funds.” If the Sunday Herald’s claims are true, then the security Breach

Banking Information Sold on eBay — for £35

It’s not the first time something like this has happened, and it won’t be the last. What’s worrisome is that it probably happens more often than we know, and we just don’t hear about it. No, someone didn’t explicitly sell personal info on eBay. What they did was sell a hard drive with the bank account numbers, phone numbers, mothers’ maiden names and signatures of 1 million customers of American Express, NatWest and the Royal Bank of Scotland on it. Big oops, right? Fortunately, the buyer was Andrew Chapman,

Lenovo’s ThinkPad X200 Ultraportable Notebook

Today we’ve got a detailed look at Lenovo’s new ThinkPad X200.  Though it may appear that the X200 is an offshoot of Lenovo’s ThinkPad X300, the ThinkPad X200 is actually more of a successor and direct descendant of their ThinkPad X61 line.  This is clearly evident both in the X200’s design and its specifications. Lenovo’s X300 tries to be as compact and feature-rich as possible, sacrificing raw computing power to present a fully featured notebook in an amazingly compact frame.   However,

Shattered Horizon Game Uses NVIDIA PhysX Technology

NVIDIA Corporation today announced that Futuremark Games Studio has selected NVIDIA PhysX technology for its upcoming first-person shooter game, Shattered Horizon, which was officially unveiled last week at the Leipzig Games Convention in Germany.

Shattered Horizon has a real space setting that offers gameplay, tactics, and freedom of movement that cannot be found in any other shooter, said Jukka Mkinen, Head of Futuremark Games Studio. PhysX is essential in helping our game designers create a realistic and fun zero-gravity combat experience. Shattered Horizon is a multiplayer first-person shooter where players fight in zero gravity surrounded by rocky debris from a huge explosion on the Moon. With simple and intuitive controls players have complete freedom of movement to create gameplay and tactics impossible in games constrained by gravity. The games stunning lighting effects and zero gravity physics give the look and feel of real space, bringing to life an extraordinary and epic vision of the future.
