If Christians disappear off the face of the Earth because of “The Rapture,” there’s a site that has recently launched that will let you say “I told you so” via email to your “left behind” friends and relatives. For just $40 a year, believers can arrange for up to 62 people to get a final message exactly six days after the Rapture, that day when — according to Christian end times dogma — Christians will be swept up to heaven, while doubters are left behind to suffer seven years of Tribulation under a global
VIA Technologies today announced a new standard for Mini-ITX boards to ensure an optimized multimedia and computing experience in small form factor desktop PCs. Mini-ITX 2.0 is a set of minimum specifications for the next generation of Mini-ITX boards to encourage the integration of the latest PC technologies into the small form factor market and to provide OEMs, system integrators and end-users alike greater freedom of choice in configuring mini PCs and home media centers to deliver an optimized graphics, high definition video, and computing experience.
“With the Mini-ITX, VIA set the de facto standard for small form factor x86 platform integration, triggering industry-wide innovation in mini PC systems,” said Timothy Chen, Special Assistant to the President, VIA Technologies, Inc. “Through the introduction of Mini-ITX 2.0, we are defining the mini PC platform of the future, paving the way for the emergence of a new generation of high performance systems that deliver an optimized experience in today's increasingly media rich environment.”
I was just looking around the Intel site and I just saw that they have Intel Solid State Drives now shown! Looks like they have 4GB and 8GB versions right now that have an IDE system interface. The Intel Z-P230 PATA Solid-State Drive is the only one listed, but hey it's a start. The read throughput is 35MB/s while the write throughput peaks at 7MB/s. A picture of the Intel Z-P230 PATA Solid-State Drive can be seen below.
The Intel Z-P230 PATA Solid-State Drive (SSD) is an innovative storage solution for value mobile and desktop systems such as netbooks and nettops. Four times smaller and lighter than a traditional 1.8 hard disk drive, and with the same industry-standard PATA (IDE) connector, the Intel Z-P230 PATA SSD is a cost-effective storage solution designed to replace traditional hard disk drives in netbook and nettop systems. The solid-state design means no moving parts, providing ruggedness thats perfect for mobile designs. And the Intel Z-P230 SSDs low power requirements translate to longer battery life.
E-Trade is offering its account holders a free application for their BlackBerry smartphones that allows them to get real-time stock information and execute trades on their phones. Now if you’re walking down the street in a big city and see executives throwing themselves out of the windows of some skyscraper, you can read the name on the building, launch your E-Trade account and key in “Sell Mortimer! The Firefox browser from Mozilla is on version three. And version three is currently available as “Prerelease Candidate 2”. That means it’s not ready for public consumption, but many people are using it. It’s unlikely that much will change after Prerelease Candidate 2, so let’s go with it. According to Walt Mossberg at least, Firefox 3 is the best browser you can buy right now, and of course, like all the other major browsers, you can’t buy it — it’s free. I’ve been using prerelease versions of Firefox 3.0
One of the more curious items spied at this week’s Computex trade show in Taipei, is an Asus laptop prototype with a built-in mini projector. There is still not too much known about the unlabeled notebook, other than that the laptop has a large space above the display’s bezel, in which a working, pivoting mini projector is housed. Mini projectors are just now starting to hit the market. Earth Trek recently just released its 90-805R mini projector, and Samsung showed off its P400 Pocket Projector prototype
Researchers at IBM’s Zurich Research Laboratory have developed a new technique that gives a whole new meaning to water cooling: Circulating water inside the chip itself. The concept is not meant for today’s CPUs, but actually for the chips of tomorrow. Historically, CPU performance improvements have largely been a function of generating faster computational speeds. But higher speeds require smaller manufacturing processes and generate more heat–thus trying to eke out more MHz from CPU design advances becomes
For roughly $150 the GeForce 9600 GT is one of the best price versus performance graphics cards on the street today. The card are looking at today is the PNY Verto GeForce 9600 GT and it features 512MB of GDDR3 frame buffer memory with a 650 MHz core clock. The PNY Verto GeForce 9600 GT is ready for PCI Express 2.0 motherboards and supports NVIDIA SLI technology. Read on as we compare it to an equally priced ATI Radeon HD 3870 512MB graphics card to see how it fairs.
A study detailed in Nature exposes the local nature of humans: we like to hang around our homes. But that’s not what caught our interest. It’s the way the study was conducted.Researchers used cell phone towers to track individuals’ locations whenever they made or received phone calls and text messages over six months. In a second set of records, researchers took another 206 cell phones that had tracking devices in them and got records for their locations every two hours over a week’s time period. The study was
