Fist it was: Psystar who? Followed by: Psystar wherefore art thou? Then nipping on those heels came: okay, I see it, but I don’t believe it. Now the latest installment in the Psystar soap opera has us eating crow, because Engadget actually has a preliminary hands-on review of a Psystar Open Computer, including video and benchmarks.”As far as benchmarks, it doesn’t exactly blow Apple’s gear away, but it definitely holds its own — and the GeForce card just destroys the integrated graphics in the MacBook / Mac
MADD Gets Mad About GTA IV
It’s not the same as the “Hot Coffee” scandal, but it’s something. Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) has Grand Theft Auto IV in its sights over the inclusion of a drunk driving module in the game.Noting that drunk driving claims nearly 13,500 lives each year, MADD said that it is “extremely disappointed” that the game lets users get virtually drunk and then get behind the wheel of an equally virtual automobile.”Drunk driving is not a game and it is not a joke,” MADD said. “Drunk driving is a choice, a violent

Criminals Try to Copyright “Malware”
Heck, if you’re going to write malware, you might as well protect yourself against piracy, and copyright it, right?Professional virus writers are now selling a suite of software on the Internet with an unusual attachment: a detailed licensing agreement that promises penalties for redistributing the malicious code without permission.”I just kind of chuckled — it’s kind of humorous,” said Zulfikar Ramzan, senior principal security researcher with Symantec Corp.As with any other software, if you’re going to install
Microsoft withdraws offer to buy Yahoo Inc.
Microsoft Corp walked away from its bid to buy Yahoo Inc on Saturday after the Internet company turned down its offer to raise the price by $5 billion to $47.5 billion.
Microsoft's offer was for $33 a share but Yahoo would not lower its demand below $37, Microsoft Chief Executive Steve Ballmer said. The software company initially bid $31 per share for Yahoo more than three months ago.
“We believe the economics demanded by Yahoo do not make sense for us, and it is in the best interests of Microsoft stockholders, employees and other stakeholders to withdraw our proposal,” Ballmer said in a statement.
Analysts say Yahoo has overplayed its hand and they expect the Web pioneer's shares to fall as much as 30 percent to $20 levels when Nasdaq trading resumes on Monday. The stock rose nearly 7 percent to $28.67 on Friday on hopes of an agreement between Microsoft and Yahoo.
OQO Model 2 Running Leopard?
There are some people that mod and tinker just because they can, and they usually end up with really strange contraptions that leave us in awe. The accomplishment of getting OS X Leopard running on a non-approved platform is amazing on its own, but getting it running on a tiny VIA-powered uMPC such as the OQO Model 2 is nothing less than legendary in our books:“While greeted with heaps of initial skepticism, forum jockeys over at OQO Talk now seem convinced that a junior member by the name of TRF has successfully
Who’s Recertifying These iPods?
An interesting tale from a reliable source has just tipped up regarding buying bargain iPods online: “The iPod came in just a couple of days–but as soon as I unwrapped it and connected it to my Mac at home I got an ominous alert from my usually quiet antivirus software. The iPod, it informed me, contained some virus known as AdobeR.exe. As I dug into the problem, I learned something I probably should have realized before I ordered. The ‘recertified’ iPod wasn’t recertified by Apple, but instead
AMD’s Bulldozer Unlike Anything You’ve Seen
While AMD is frantically trying to ramp up the speeds of their existing Phenom designs, we’re starting to get a slightly clearer picture of what the company plans on offering next. AMD’s technical director of sales and marketing for EMEA, Giuseppe Amato, told Custom PC that ‘if I look at the next generation architecture of our CPU, then it will definitely not be, how can I say, comparable with the Phenom. It will look completely different.’ Amato was unable to give us any specific details of the new architecture,
Parallels XP SP3 Support Up To a Month Away
In anticipation of the official rollout of Windows XP SP3, both Apple and VMware have recently released updates to their software (Boot Camp and Fusion, respectively)–promising users who run Windows XP on their Macs that their systems will be compatible with the XP SP3 update. Parallels, however, has been quiet on the matter in regards to XP SP3 compatibility with their Parallels Desktop for Mac virtualization app. However, today HotHardware was able to get a comment from a Parallels spokesman
Psystar’s Open Computer Mac Clone Unboxed
The folks over at Engadget appear to have received an actual Psystar Open Computer Mac clone, and they’ve posted a number of photos from the system’s unboxing. The case looks to be the same design as appeared in the video post we wrote about yesterday. Which means we’re probably going to have to eat our words: We theorized that the video was just an elaborate OSx86 Project hoax. We’ll have to check back in with Engadget to see what their experience is once they power the system up.
