Intel Introduces two 50W low-voltage 45nm Xeon server processors – L5420 and L5410

Intel Corporation has further increased its energy-efficient performance lead today with the introduction of two low-voltage 45 nanometer (nm) processors for servers and workstations that run at 50 watts, or just 12.5 watts per core and frequencies as high as 2.50 GigaHertz (GHz). The Quad-Core Intel Xeon Processor L5400 Series takes advantage of Intel's unique 45nm manufacturing capabilities and reinvented transistor formula that combine to boost performance and reduce power consumption in data centers.

Benefiting companies with power-constrained, high-compute density environments, the Quad-Core Intel Xeon L5400 processors are as much as 25 percent faster(1) and have a 50 percent larger cache size than Intel's previous-generation, low-voltage Quad-Core Intel Xeon processors, while at the same time maintaining the low 50-watt thermal envelope. The quad-core L5420 and L5410 processors run at 2.50 GHz and 2.33 GHz, respectively, and feature a unique 12 megabytes (MB) of on-die cache and dedicated 1333 MHz front side buses (FSB).

Sony Will Kill Your Parents, Call You An Orphan

There’s an old joke about a young fellow that kills his parents, then asks for mercy from the judge because he’s an orphan. Sony seems to be trying a weird version of that approach to sell laptop computers. If you agree to pay them an extra $50, Sony will wipe your new laptop computer clean of pre-loaded crapware, the resource-gobbling program junk you never wanted in the first place. Nowadays, many people pay little or nothing for the copy of Windows loaded on PCs because manufacturers charge suppliers for

Your DirecTV Will Be DRM-Old And Busted

April 15th is not my favorite day of the year. I doubt it’s yours, either. But the IRS is not the only acronym you need to start worrying about on that date. This year, your DirecTV digital video recorder will be getting the DRM treatment for pay-per-view content on April 15th. The days of recording and watching entirely at your leisure are over.Under the new policy when you purchase PPV movies, sporting events, etc., you’ll have 24-hours to finish watching it, after which time it will expire and if you want

Samsung SyncMaster 2243BW 22″ Wide Screen LCD

Today at HotHardware we look at one of the latest additions to the 22″ LCD monitor market segment, the Samsung SyncMaster 2243BW Wide Screen LCD.  While the Samsung 2243BW may be aimed at business use, its specifications suggest that it should be capable of quite a bit more than just spreadsheets and word documents. With good viewing angles, a decent 5ms response time, good brightness and an excellent 1000:1 static contrast ratio, the 2243BW should be well equipped to handle any multimedia thrown its way.

XFX GeForce 9800 GX2 Quad SLI Versus ATI CrossFireX

Hi, I’m A Mac. Your Brand Isn’t As Cool As Mine

The battle between Microsoft and Apple may have caused Microsoft to lose some of its luster in the global brand rankings.  The Redmond giant has slipped from number 11 to number 59 over the past three years.”The effect of Apple’s ‘Hi, I’m a Mac’ advertising campaign may have taken its toll on Microsoft,” CoreBrand CEO James Gregory said in a statement. “The launch of a series of new products, following a long, relatively dormant period, will be closely watched to see if it will have a positive impact on

Dell Responds To SSD Rumors

Avian Securities recently reported that a major systems player was experiencing an extremely high return rate of computer products shipped with solid state drives (SSDs).  Shortly after the story broke it was widely rumored that the company in question was none other than Dell.  Of course not all reports circulating the internet completely accurate, and some are simply bogus.Thankfully this seems like a case of the latter and Dell wants to set the record straight:”Here’s the real story: the 20
