Intel and MS Enlist Berkeley For Multithreading

These days, just developing a chip with a multi-core architecture doesn’t necessarily equate to higher performance, since many mainstream applications are not multithreaded.   As a result, big chip manufacturers like Intel and AMD are continually developing programming kits, compilers and various tools to equip software developers with the capability to tap mult-core processor resources for their roadmap product efforts.  However the task at hand, though seemingly straight-forward isn’t as easy,

Kohjinsha SR8, 7″ UMPC With Integrated DVD

SSDs: Price, Capacity Or Performance. You Pick

They say that beggars can’t be choosers, but apparently consumers can be.  The choice that consumers are likely to be faced with in the near future is not whether to go down the SSD route, but which type of SSD do they want.“Faster drives and a falling cost-per-gigabyte should help bring drive costs down from the stratosphere and into a price bracket more consumers can afford, but the focus in the manufacturing world right now is on boosting storage capacities and performance, not reducing costs. It’s very

700MHz spectrum auction ends

The controversial 700MHz spectrum auction has closed, raising $19.59 billion, a record for a spectrum auction in the U.S., the U.S. Federal Communications Commission said Tuesday. The FCC, however, failed to sell off a swath of spectrum that was set aside for a public safety network. That block did not receive a bid that met the FCC's $1.3 billion reserve price. The agency is evaluating its options for the spectrum, it said.

The 700MHz auction was the first to require anonymous bidding, and the FCC has not yet revealed which companies won the rights to the bands that were sold. While Google was instrumental in pushing the so-called open-access rules for the auction, it is still unknown if the search giant bid for or won any of the licenses.
