Worldwide PC processor shipments in the second quarter of 2009 rose notably, according to new data from IDC. While the increase was unusually positive for the second quarter of a year, IDC's said it analysis of the results indicated that Intel and OEM inventory refreshes drove the performance, and not the return of significant end demand for PCs.<\/p>\n

In the second quarter of 2009, worldwide PC processor shipments rose 10.1% on quarter, compared to the drop of 10.9% from the fourth quarter of 2008 to the first quarter of 2009. Unit shipments declined 7% on year. Market revenues increased 7.9% from the first quarter of 2009 to the second, compared to drop of 11% from the fourth quarter of 2008 to the first quarter of 2009. Second quarter revenues declined 15.3% compared to the same quarter in 2008. Intel's overall PC processor shipments increased 12.5% from the first quarter of 2009 to the second.
