Intel's share of the x86 CPU market rose to 80.5% in the second quarter of 2009, up from 78.2% in the first, thanks to price cuts for its desktop CPUs and the recovery of some CPU shortages, according to market sources citing figures from research firm Mercury Research.<\/p>\n

AMD's share dropped from 20.9% in the first quarter to 18.7% in the second, the sources noted. VIA's share in the second quarter was 0.9%, up 0.1pp from the first.
