And, like an anthropologist lecturing on peoples eons-dead, they deliver their speculation with absolute confidence.&#160; <\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">And that\u2019s fine \u2013 hell, it\u2019s even entertaining \u2013 but we usually leave the wild speculation to others.&#160; That said, we also like to keep you updated on the latest <em>specumation<\/em> making the rounds whenever it seems credible.<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">The latest comes from Gizmodo, which has some <a href=\"http:\/\/gizmodo.com\/5450946\/source-windows-mobile-7-handsets-coming-late-2010-will-support-6x-apps\" >interesting ideas<\/a> on Windows Mobile in the new year.&#160; In a nutshell, the story states that Windows Mobile 7 will indeed be <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pocketpccentral.net\/newscenter\/2010\/01\/08\/microsoft-to-demo-windows-mobile-7-at-mwc\/\">shown at the MWC in February<\/a>, that the OS will ship sometime in late 2010, and that there will be \u2013 contrary to <a href=\"http:\/\/gizmodo.com\/5450142\/rumor-windows-mobile-7-still-zune+like-doesnt-work-with-existing-windows-mobile-apps\" >recent reports<\/a> \u2013 support for at least some WinMo 6.x applications, probably via emulation.<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">Each of these assertions seems reasonable given what we\u2019ve been told over the last several months, but we won\u2019t know anything for sure until mid-year.&#160; Even if Microsoft shows off 7 in February (and we think they will, in some form at least), changes <em>will <\/em>come between then and year\u2019s end.&#160; The legacy support for existing third-party apps seems the most suspect, although new, fast mobile CPUs could make this a possibility.&#160; <\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">We can\u2019t imagine Zune media components not being part of the mix, and there will surely be significant UI changes.&#160; There could also be Minority Report-style gesture controls, Windows XP emulators, a Bluetooth neural interface and\u2026<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">Wild speculation.&#160; So tempting.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>\nNature abhors a vacuum, and that goes double for tech news types.&#160; When supplied with little or no information, the talking heads will fill the void with any ol\u2019 thing, baseless rumors and guesses being, more often than not, the medium of choice.
