Complete with screenshots, the <a href=\"http:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2010\/05\/13\/exclusive-google-to-add-tethering-wifi-hotspot-to-android-2-2-froyo\/\">post<\/a> says we\u2019ll not only be able to connect FroYo-powered handsets to our computers for over-USB-tethering, but that those same handsets will also use their Wi-Fi chips to create portable wireless networks \u00e0 la <a href=\"http:\/\/www.novatelwireless.com\/\">MiFi<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Speed Improvements:<\/strong> According to the site AndroidPolice, FroYo <a href=\"http:\/\/www.androidpolice.com\/2010\/05\/11\/exclusive-androidpolice-coms-nexus-one-is-running-android-2-2-froyo-how-fast-is-it-compared-to-2-1-oh-only-about-450-faster\/\">scores significantly higher<\/a> in LINPACK speed benchmark tests than Eclair (v2.1) on the same hardware.\u00a0 In fact, according to the test, FroYo\u2019s speed \u2013 or the number of operations it can perform per second \u2013 on the Nexus One is 37 MFLOPS, while Eclair\u2019s speed test was 7 MFLOPS; that\u2019s about a 5x speed increase.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Benchmark results are notoriously unreliable for indications of real-world performance, but with such a significant change in scores on the same test, there is certainly cause for cautious optimism that FroYo has some significant optimizations under the hood.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Flash Support:<\/strong> We\u2019ve known for a couple of weeks that <a href=\"http:\/\/bits.blogs.nytimes.com\/2010\/04\/27\/googles-andy-rubin-on-everything-android\/\">Flash support is included in Android 2.2<\/a>, and if the AndroidPolice tests turn out to be accurate, speed optimizations may have been the key to making this possible.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Install Apps to Memory Card:<\/strong> Officially listed as <a href=\"http:\/\/code.google.com\/p\/android\/issues\/detail?id=1151#c535\">\u201ccoming soon,\u201d<\/a> the ability to install applications to a memory card rather than to the internal memory alone is widely considered to be included in Android v2.2.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The next version of Google\u2019s mobile OS &#8211; version 2.2 or \u201cFroYo\u201d &#8211; will include some pretty impressive new features and tweaks\u2026 if you believe the latest round of news and pseudo news.\u00a0 Let\u2019s take a look:<br \/>\nInternet Sharing: TechCrunch has provided pretty solid confirmation of v2.2\u2019s built-in tethering and Wi-Fi Hotspot capabilities.
