We\u2019ve known it was coming, and today at I\/O it did: Google made the next version of Android, v2.2, official<\/a>.  <\/p>\n

Most of what we told you a week ago<\/a> is included: Wi-Fi tethering (mobile hotspot), Flash support, better Exchange support, and a 2-5x speed bump over Android 2.1.  <\/p>\n

But there are some new over-the-air (OTA) goodies as well.  A new OTA app installation service will allow you to find software on your computer and have the app installed on your Android phone wirelessly over its data connection (yea!).  A new Windows (and Mac?) utility will also make it possible to stream all of your iTunes music OTA to your Android phone.  And a Chrome browser plug-in for the PC will allow you to send things like maps and directions to your phone wirelessly.  Pretty cool stuff.<\/p>\n
