And other than the HD2 and the LG Fathom, 2010 hasn\u2019t exactly been a banner year for Windows Mobile 6.5 either.<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">But this week marks a milestone in the Windows Phone 7 journey.&#160; Now, for the first time, reviewers and developers have prototype Samsung smartphones running a near-final version of Windows Phone 7 in their hands.&#160; And that means, among other things, that Windows Phone 7 will quickly shift from chatter and conjecture to any-week-now reality.<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.engadget.com\/2010\/07\/19\/windows-phone-7-in-depth-preview\/\">Engadget<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.boygeniusreport.com\/2010\/07\/19\/microsoft-windows-phone-7-preview\/\">Boy Genius Report<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.winsupersite.com\/mobile\/wp7_handson.asp\">SuperSite for Windows<\/a> have each posted first impressions of the Windows Phone 7 OS based on experiences with the prototype devices.&#160; The response is mixed, as you\u2019d expect, and each source highlights aspects of the OS that delight, confound and disappoint.&#160; <\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">If you\u2019re interested in Windows Phone 7 \u2013 and if you\u2019re reading this, you very likely are \u2013take a look at the posts and judge for yourself what you think of Microsoft\u2019s upcoming mobile reboot.&#160; <\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">The first smartphones based on the operating system are scheduled for release in Q4 of 2010, so it\u2019s crunch time.&#160; <\/p>\n<p><strong>UPDATE:<\/strong> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mobilecrunch.com\/2010\/07\/19\/pre-review-preview-windows-phone-7-2\/\">TechCrunch<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.zdnet.com\/blog\/cell-phones\/microsoft-windows-phone-7-technical-preview-a-definitive-guide\/4286?tag=content;feature-roto\">ZDNet<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/gizmodo.com\/5590327\/windows-phone-7-in-depth-a-fresh-start\">Gizmodo<\/a> have also posted preview pieces.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Aside from the official Microsoft announcement in February and the steady stream of leaks and rumors that followed, it\u2019s been fairly quiet on the Windows Phone 7 front of late.
