{"id":11467,"date":"2010-07-30T13:02:00","date_gmt":"2010-07-30T17:02:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.pocketpccentral.net\/newscenter\/2010\/07\/30\/android-2-2-froyo-release-schedule\/"},"modified":"2010-07-30T13:02:00","modified_gmt":"2010-07-30T17:02:00","slug":"android-22-%e2%80%98froyo%e2%80%99-release-schedule","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/computerhunter.us\/?p=11467","title":{"rendered":"Android 2.2 \u2018Froyo\u2019 Release Schedule"},"content":{"rendered":"<p align=\"justify\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"border-right-width: 0px; margin: 10px 15px 0px 0px; display: inline; border-top-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px\" title=\"Android 2.2 Froyo\" border=\"0\" alt=\"Android 2.2 Froyo\" align=\"left\" src=\"http:\/\/www.pocketpccentral.net\/newscenter\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/07\/Froyo.jpg\" width=\"227\" height=\"277\" \/><a href=\"http:\/\/pocketpccentral.net\/smartphone\/android\/nexus_one.htm\">Nexus One<\/a> owners have been rockin\u2019 <a title=\"Find out more about Android 2.2\" href=\"http:\/\/developer.android.com\/sdk\/android-2.2-highlights.html\">Android OS v2.2<\/a> \u201cFroyo\u201d for <a href=\"http:\/\/googlenexusoneboard.blogspot.com\/2010\/06\/new-android-22-software-update-for.html\">weeks<\/a>.&#160; But millions of other Android-powered smartphones have been left high and dry, still running Android 2.1, 2.0 or &#8211; condolences &#8211; 1.x.<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">Android 2.2 won\u2019t be limited to the Nexus One forever, though.&#160; HTC, Motorola, Samsung, and the four major U.S. wireless carriers are each working to bring the latest version of Android to a number of existing handsets between August 1st and the end of 2010. <\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">Here\u2019s what we know &#8211; or think we know &#8211; about Froyo updates for existing handsets.<\/p>\n<p>  <span id=\"more-1730\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">According to an <a href=\"http:\/\/androidspin.com\/2010\/07\/26\/froyo-to-roll-out-on-3-devices-next-week\/\">AndroidSPIN tipster<\/a>, Motorola will begin rolling out over the air (OTA) Froyo updates for the recently-released <a href=\"http:\/\/pocketpccentral.net\/smartphone\/android\/verizon\/droid_x.htm\">DROID X<\/a> and the <a href=\"http:\/\/pocketpccentral.net\/smartphone\/android\/verizon\/motorola_droid.htm\">original Motorola DROID<\/a> as early as next week.&#160; The Verizon Wireless inside source believes August 6th may be the launch date for the 2.2 upgrade for these Motorola devices. <\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">Similarly, the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pocketpccentral.net\/smartphone\/android\/verizon\/htc_incredible.htm\">DROID Incredible<\/a>, built by HTC, may also receive Froyo in the next week or so.&#160; The (purportedly) final build of 2.2 for the Incredible has been leaked and is already available for <a href=\"http:\/\/forum.xda-developers.com\/showthread.php?t=737400\">download on XDA Forums<\/a>, so an early August release doesn\u2019t seem outside the realm of possibility. The AndroidSPIN tipster also claimed that the Incredible would be updated alongside Motorola\u2019s DROID smartphones.<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><a href=\"http:\/\/bit.ly\/bPGrss\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin: 5px 2px 0px 15px; display: inline\" align=\"right\" src=\"http:\/\/www.tqlkg.com\/image-871827-10021513\" \/><\/a>HTC plans to update other models in its Android lineup, too.&#160; On Tuesday, August 3rd, the Sprint EVO 4G will be getting Froyo.&#160; Later in Q3, the <a href=\"http:\/\/pocketpccentral.net\/smartphone\/android\/att\/htc_desire.htm\">Desire<\/a>, Wildfire and Legend will follow suit (<a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.computerworld.com\/16634\/froyo_android_2_2?source=rss_blogs\">some say<\/a> the Desire will get its Froyo update as soon as this weekend).&#160; The T-Mobile MyTouch family of smartphones (also built by HTC) are rumored to be getting Froyo, too, but this has not been confirmed.<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">Samsung\u2019s Galaxy S smartphones &#8211; the <a href=\"http:\/\/pocketpccentral.net\/smartphone\/android\/att\/captivate.htm\">AT&amp;T Captivate<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/pocketpccentral.net\/smartphone\/android\/tmobile\/samsung_vibrant.htm\">T-Mobile Vibrant<\/a>, etc. &#8211; will be getting the 2.2 treatment, though the release schedule is pretty wide open.&#160; While Samsung has committed to upgrade Galaxy S handsets in the UK come September, there have been no hints as to when U.S. versions will be updated.&#160; Samsung isn\u2019t talking other than to say that U.S. versions will get Froyo.<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">The Motorold DROID 2, which is scheduled to be released next month, will reportedly ship with Android 2.2 pre-installed.<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">Older and\/or discontinued Android handsets including the HTC Eris and Hero, Motorola Devour and Backflip, Samsung Moment, and T-Mobile G1 are almost certain to never taste sweet, delicious Froyo &#8211; at least not officially.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Nexus One owners have been rockin\u2019 Android OS v2.2 \u201cFroyo\u201d for weeks.&#160; But millions of other Android-powered smartphones have been left high and dry, still running Android 2.1, 2.0 or &#8211; condolences &#8211; 1.x.
