{"id":11474,"date":"2010-08-04T12:40:00","date_gmt":"2010-08-04T16:40:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.pocketpccentral.net\/newscenter\/?p=1751"},"modified":"2010-08-04T12:40:00","modified_gmt":"2010-08-04T16:40:00","slug":"htc-glacier-to-bring-15ghz-cpu-to-android-smartphones","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/computerhunter.us\/?p=11474","title":{"rendered":"HTC Glacier to Bring 1.5GHz CPU to Android Smartphones?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.pocketpccentral.net\/newscenter\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/Snapdragon12.jpg\" rel=\"lightbox[1751]\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"border-right-width: 0px; margin: 12px 15px 0px 0px; display: inline; border-top-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px\" title=\"Snapdragon System-On-Chip\" border=\"0\" alt=\"Snapdragon System-On-Chip\" align=\"left\" src=\"http:\/\/www.pocketpccentral.net\/newscenter\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/Snapdragon12_thumb.jpg\" width=\"240\" height=\"214\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">Qualcomm <a href=\"http:\/\/www.qualcomm.com\/news\/releases\/2010\/06\/01\/qualcomm-ships-first-dual-cpu-snapdragon-chipset\">began shipping<\/a> its third generation, dual-core Snapdragon SoC CPUs to device manufacturers sometime around early June.&#160; And, if new information published by AlienBabelTech is taken at face value, devices powered by these new processors are already well into the testing phase.<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">ABT <a href=\"http:\/\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/?p=20035\">reports discovering<\/a> entries for an Android device labeled <em>HTC Glacier<\/em>&#160; in an online database of GLBenchmark test results.&#160; The benchmark scores show a marked increase in CPU performance&#160; compared to high-end smartphones on the market today.&#160; When compared to the Sprint EVO 4G, for example, which employs a 1GHz 2nd Gen Snapdragon, the Glacier\u2019s CPU produced results that were about three times as fast.<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">Using comparative math, the poster at ABT seems to believe these benchmark scores come from a 1.5GHz Snapdragon rather than a 1.2GHz model (the 3rd Gen Snapdragon System-on-Chip platforms are available in both clock speeds).&#160; You can review the calculations used to guess the speed of the CPU <a href=\"http:\/\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/?p=20035\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">Qualcomm has only fessed up to shipping 1.2GHz versions of the new Snapdragons thus far, and a jump of 200Mhz in smartphone processors seems more likely than a 500MHz jump. So I\u2019m betting the HTC Glacier \u2013 or whatever it\u2019ll be marketed as \u2013 will run the 1.2GHz MSM8260 rather than its 1.5GHz sibling.&#160; I could be wrong, of course (here\u2019s hoping).<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">So, what else is known about the Glacier other than its raw benchmark test results?&#160; Not much.&#160; But ABT supposes that it may be the star of T-Mobile\u2019s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.google.com\/search?q=Project+Emerald\">Project Emerald<\/a>, which promises a dual-core HTC Android smartphone.&#160; There are <a href=\"http:\/\/www.androidguys.com\/2010\/06\/25\/project-emerald-prediction-update\/\">other theories<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Qualcomm began shipping its third generation, dual-core Snapdragon SoC CPUs to device manufacturers sometime around early June.&#160; And, if new information published by AlienBabelTech is taken at face value, devices powered by these new processors are already well into the testing phase.
