{"id":12813,"date":"2011-02-16T10:00:00","date_gmt":"2011-02-16T14:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.pocketpccentral.net\/newscenter\/2011\/02\/16\/nvidias-kal-el-tegra-3-packs-four-cores\/"},"modified":"2011-02-16T10:00:00","modified_gmt":"2011-02-16T14:00:00","slug":"nvidia%e2%80%99s-%e2%80%98kal-el%e2%80%99-tegra-3-packs-four-cores","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/computerhunter.us\/?p=12813","title":{"rendered":"nVidia\u2019s \u2018Kal-El\u2019 Tegra 3 Packs Four Cores"},"content":{"rendered":"<p align=\"justify\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.pocketpccentral.net\/newscenter\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/02\/tegra_badge.jpg\" rel=\"lightbox\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; margin: 5px 12px 13px 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; float: left; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px\" title=\"tegra_badge\" border=\"0\" alt=\"tegra_badge\" align=\"left\" src=\"http:\/\/www.pocketpccentral.net\/newscenter\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/02\/tegra_badge_thumb.jpg\" width=\"246\" height=\"240\" \/><\/a>As it was with desktops and laptops, so it will be with tablets and smartphones.&#160; <\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">After years of single-core processors powering our mobile devices, we\u2019re just now in the process of making the jump to dual-core mobile CPUs.&#160; The <a href=\"http:\/\/pocketpccentral.net\/tablets\/android\/motorola\/xoom_verizon.htm\">Motorola XOOM<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/pocketpccentral.net\/tablets\/android\/lg\/g_slate_2010.htm\">LG G-Slate<\/a> Android tablets are each powered by a dual-core <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nvidia.com\/object\/tegra-2.html\">Tegra 2<\/a> from nVidia, more than a few 2011 smartphones will include dual core CPUs, and many expect Apple\u2019s <a href=\"http:\/\/pocketpccentral.net\/iphone\/products\/apple_ipad_2G.htm\">2nd Gen iPad<\/a> and iPhone 5 to have two app cores as well.<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">But the next transition from dual to quad-core mobile devices may be&#160; a short one. nVidia has just <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.nvidia.com\/2011\/02\/tegra-roadmap-revealed-next-chip-worlds-first-quadcore-mobile-processor\/\">announced<\/a> Project Kal-El, Tegra 2\u2019s quad-core successor slated to power the next generation of smartphones and tablets &#8211; and possibly as early this year.<\/p>\n<p>  <span id=\"more-2116\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.pocketpccentral.net\/newscenter\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/02\/kalel.jpg\" rel=\"lightbox\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; margin: 5px 0px 0px 12px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; float: right; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px\" title=\"kalel\" border=\"0\" alt=\"kalel\" align=\"right\" src=\"http:\/\/www.pocketpccentral.net\/newscenter\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/02\/kalel_thumb.jpg\" width=\"312\" height=\"192\" \/><\/a>The \u2018Kal-El\u2019 SoC boasts a four-core CPU to handle number crunching, and twelve GPU cores to boost graphics performance.
