When Verizon opens its doors tomorrow, there won’t just be the Motorola Droid on the shelves; another Android smartphone with the Droid label will be right alongside: the HTC Droid ERIS.
With a price of $99 with a two-year service agreement and after a $100 mail-in rebate, the ERIS will have the most affordable official carrier price of any Android smartphone in the U.S.
So what does that $100 savings over the Moto Droid translate to in terms of hardware?
The ERIS has a smaller, lower-resolution touchscreen, a slower CPU, and an included flash memory card with half the storage (8GB v the Motorola Droid’s 16GB). Plus, the ERIS doesn’t have a hardware QWERTY keyboard and ships with v1.5 of the Android OS.
