MSI to launch 3.5G Wind netbook next month

Micro-Star International (MSI) is planning to launch the Wind U120 with a built-in 3.5G module in November this year. The netbook will feature Intel's Atom N270 processor, 1GB memory, 120GB hard drive and Windows XP and be priced around NT$18,000 (US$552) in a choice of white or black, according to notebook industry sources.

With the addition of the new netbook, the company's total netbook shipments will have a chance to break 500,000 units in 2008, and may reach 600,000 if MSI's cooperation with telecommunications operators goes well. MSI recently teamed up with Taiwan-based telco Vibo Telecom to bundle its 8.9-inch Wind U90 netbook with the Vibo's 3.5G services. The company is also in negotiations with local telecom providers in Europe to build similar cooperative deals.
