Thanks to the folks at pocketpc.ch, we now have a much better idea of what to expect from Microsoft’s upcoming Windows Mobile 6.5 operating system. The site has posted over 30 screenshots of WinMo6.5 and it looks like there’s a lot of finger-friendly goodness in store for Windows Phone users later this year.
The screenshots show the touchscreen, or Professional, version of Windows Mobile 6.5. The Today Screen has been significantly updated with a new full-screen wallpaper design and the sliding panel interface we’ve been expecting. The Programs menu (seen left) has the long-reported honeycomb interface allowing app selection with your finger; you can also change the order in which programs appear in this layout.
Windows Mobile 6.5 features additional changes in the phone portion of the OS with incoming call information and control sliders a la Apple’s iPhone.
In general, buttons and menus are larger and more finger friendly – a very welcome change. We’re looking forward to the new OS which should be officially announced next week.
We’ll keep you posted on new developments as they come.
