Turn Your Windows Mobile Smartphone into a Wireless Router with WalkingHotSpot

Almost all Windows Mobile Smartphones include built-in Wi-Fi which you can use it to surf the Web, check your email, etc., on your smartphone whenever you have access to a Wi-Fi network.  But what if you could use that onboard Wi-Fi to transform your smartphone into a wireless router, using its 3G data connection to connect other Wi-Fi devices – like your laptop — to the Internet?

That’s exactly what WalkingHotSpot does: when running on a Windows Mobile 6 smartphone, it uses the device’s wireless data connection (EDGE, HSDPA, EV-DO, etc.) to access the Internet, then pipes that connection through the smartphone’s Wi-Fi allowing other Wi-Fi-enabled devices to share its data connection.  This saves you money since it’s not technically “tethering” to another device, a USB or Bluetooth service wireless carriers charge for.  It’s also a convenience since there’s no need to carry an additional wireless modem to connect other devices to the Internet.

You can connect up to five Wi-Fi devices to a Windows Mobile Smartphone running WalkingHotSpot, and support is limited to select Windows Mobile 6 devices.
