Intel Core i5 Retail Box Processor

The new Core i7 and i5 processors are the first Intel processors to integrate both a 16-lane PCI Express 2 graphics port and two-channel memory controller, enabling all input/output and manageability functions to be handled by the single-chip Intel P55 Express Chipset. Previous Intel chipsets required two separate chips. A new Direct Media Interface (DMI) connects between the processor and chipset. The chipset supports 8 PCI Express 2.0 x1 Ports (2.5GT/s) for flexible device support. Dual graphics cards are supported in a “2×8” configuration. The chipset also supports 6 SATA 3 Gb/s Ports with Intel Matrix Storage Technology providing RAID levels 0/1/5/10. Up to 14 USB 2.0 Ports can be supported with the chipset's integrated USB 2.0 Rate Matching Hub, along with Intel High Definition Audio for premium digital sound. The new processors are the first to be supported by the new Land Grid Array (LGA) 1156 package and socket technology.

GlacialTech Launches CPU Cooler F101 Silent and PWM

GlacialTech launched their latest CPU Cooler F101 which can support for Intel Core i7/i5 Processors on LGA775/1156/1366 and even AMD socket AM2 & AM3 platforms. The unique design incorporates a specially aligned sinter heat-pipe (combination of five pipes) that dissipates the heat from the CPU directly into the heatsink fins. From there, the Silent version's fan quietly and efficiently brings the temperature down. The CPU cooler comes with a 120 mm fan, which offers a unique shape, as part of the cooler hovers over the chipset.

GlacialTech CPU Cooler F101

GlacialTech has implemented a cost effective and useful way to keep your processor cool. When running resource hungry applications and you have the PWM version installed, turn up the RPM to manage your heat dissipation more effectively. While the PC is idle or doing non-intensive work, turn the RPM back to its own position. This is how you manage your power consumption, generating lower decibel of noise and gives you a peace of mind. Alternatively, the users have the option to purchase the Silent version as GlacialTech offers you the variety and options to suit your needs.

Intel G31 chipset shortages to get worse in 4Q09 as Intel cuts back supply

Supplies of Intel's G31 IGP chipset are expected to become even tighter in the fourth quarter of 2009 as Intel plans to reduce the proportion of the chipsets in its total shipments from 50% in the first quarter, to 25%, according to sources at motherboard makers. Intel said it could not comment on supply issues, but added it continues to work with the industry to meet demand for its products.

Intel G31 IGP chipset

Although Intel hopes motherboard makers will transition to the G41 chipset, motherboard makers are unwilling to adopt the new chipset as its price is US$7 (US$4-5 for first-tier makers) higher than the price of the G31. Intel plans to raise the shipments proportion of the G41 to 25% in the fourth quarter. The tight supply of G31 chipsets has already caused a supply gap of around 20% in the third quarter and the percentage may reach 50% in the fourth.
