Ian McNaughton made a blog post today here at Quakecon 2009 that gave his readers early access to the final build of the latest ATI Catalyst driver. The official launch of CATALYST 9.8 drivers is not until Monday, but they thought you guys might like an early look. It's not too often AMD 'leaks' their own drivers a few days early, but we all want better drivers ASAP. Catalyst 9.8 includes enhancements specific to Performance Platforms that improve system performance in CPU bound situations. In our tests at 1680×1050 resolutions and higher, ATI Radeon HD 4870 X2 cards, and other 2x,3x,4x CrossFireX situations benefit considerably (up to ~50% in FarCry2) when used on a platform featuring AMD Dragon Technology. Titles such as Far Cry2, H.A.W.X., Battleforge, Stalker Clear Sky, Crysis, Company of Heroes, and World in Conflict show the largest gains.

When Apple released the iPhone OS 3.0 firmware, there was much angst over the fact that MMS would be included in the package, but not for AT&T users (there has also been angst over lack of tethering but that’s another story). Two, count ’em, two lawsuits have been filed over the delays in rolling out MMS, which AT&T said was coming “this summer.” Realistically, it’s still summer, but the obvious question is “what’s taking so long?” The obvious answer is there has to be an issue on the AT&T network.
