Garmin-Asus, the partnership that many doubted would ever bear fruit, is finally gearing up to ship their first product. When it was originally announced back in 2008, the nüvifone was viewed as a serious iPhone competitor and a real top-notch product for the smartphone industry at large. Unfortunately for Garmin-Asus, a lot has changed over the past year, with Google’s Android hitting the market, Samsung stepping up its Windows Mobile game and even LG making a serious play for market share. The other thing
Apple Complaint, and Price Drop, Brings “Laptop Hunters” Ad Change
At the Worldwide Partner Conference in mid-July, Microsoft COO Kevin Turner noted that the Laptop Hunters ads are working, saying that Apple demanded Microsoft pull the ads because it (Apple) had lowered its prices:And you know why I know they’re working? Because two weeks ago we got a call from the Apple legal department saying, hey — this is a true story — saying, “Hey, you need to stop running those ads, we lowered our prices.” They took like $100 off or something. It was the greatest single phone call

SteelSeries Intros Xai And Kinzu Gaming Mice
Without a doubt, the gaming mouse sector is getting pretty stuffed. With outfits like GIGABYTE and Razer producing some pretty nimble critters catering to the needs of hardcore snipers the world over, it’s tough to make a mouse that can stand out. SteelSeries is a lesser known company in the mouse arena, but it’s definitely not new company. The outfit has just introduced its newest duo of mice: the SteelSeries Xai Laser Mouse and SteelSeries Kinzu Optical Mouse. The former promises 12000 frames per second at
OCZ Vertex Turbo 120GB SSD Sneak Peek
To say that there’s a lot going on in the solid state drive market at the moment would be the understatement of the year. Multi-Touch Apple Tablet To Finally Launch In Early 2010?
Are you ready to believe…again? After years and years of rumors, we’re being presented with yet another round of rumors on a supposed Apple Tablet. In fact, we covered this very rumor way back in 2007, and obviously nothing of the sort has surfaced yet. That said, there were rumors of the iPhone for years before it ever became a reality, so we can’t completely discount the possibility that an Apple Tablet has been in the oven for years on end. In fact, that’s exactly what AppleInsider is suggesting in a new
Facebook Relents; Username Change Now Possible
When Facebook allowed users to choose their own usernames, which could be then used to produce URLs for your profile and pages associated with it that made sense (the so-called Facebook Vanity URL Landrush), they warned users to “choose carefully,” as it was a one-time choice. They now appear to have backtracked slightly on that issue. Slightly is the correct term, we think, because while you can now go into your settings and change your username, you can only do it one time. While this allows people who chose
Samsung Cortex-A8 ‘Hummingbird’ System-On-Chip to Run at 1GHz
Samsung, together with Intrinsity, is currently hard at work on a new ARM Cortex-A8 System-On-Chip (SoC) that will provide more processing power for future handheld devices. Code-named “Hummingbird,” the SoC will run at clock speeds up to 1GHz without significant impact on battery life.
Samsung’s SoCs currently power a range of mobile devices. The Samsung S5PC100 Cortex-A8 SoC powers the iPhone 3GS, while a TI version of the Cortex-A8 is at the heart of the Palm Pre; each of these smartphones’ processors run at 600Mhz. The Hummingbird SoC is designed to provide 2000DMIPS (Dhrystone Million Instructions per Second) at 1GHz and enhanced multimedia performance with NEON technology.
According to New Electronics, a UK technology site:
“ … Hummingbird based SoCs will enable … customers to add more advanced processing capabilities to mobile products without sacrificing battery life. To achieve a 1GHz operating clock speed in 45nm LP process, Hummingbird uses a semi custom design flow. A multi Vdd, multifrequency design methodology was also used to ensure the core can run at a high speed, even at 1V. Low power consumption and high operating clock performance are said to make Hummingbird ideal for use in advanced mobile devices.”
No word yet on when we can expect to begin seeing the new Samsung chip in handheld devices.
