Dell and Microsoft have had something more significant than just a working relationship for some time now, but it looks like that partnership just got ratcheted up a notch. As more and more outfits (Adobe, for one) offer full applications online, Dell has landed a deal that will allow it to sell “digital” versions of Microsoft products. In fact, the newly created Dell Download Store is the very first non-Microsoft consumer site authorized for downloads.Wares such as Word, Excel and Outlook are now available

We’ve heard that Intel may have a few new Atom processors on tap for release later this year, so it makes sense to see AMD propping up its own low-end, low-power lineup. Rather than unveil them alone, however, it seems as if Advanced Micro Devices is enlisting the assistance of Hewlett-Packard, as the newest Athlon Neo and Turion Neo processors are surfacing in the all-new Pavilion dv2z notebook.Beginning this week, consumers in the market for a new ultraportable can find the aforementioned machine on sale,

Current iPhone Users Protest Upgrade Pricing
A Twitter petition has been started by current iPhone users under contract with AT&T who are unhappy about the large disparity in the hardware prices between new and existing customers. In other news, life is unfair.
iPhone users angry over AT&T's pricing policy for the new iPhone 3G S have taken their campaign to Twitter, where more than 4,400 have added their names to an instant petition.
They're mad as hell about AT&T's plan to charge them an additional $200 to upgrade to the iPhone 3G S if they haven't fulfilled most or all of their two-year contract with the carrier. “AT&T should give existing customers the same rate for the new iPhone 3G S that they do for new customers,” the Twitter petition reads. “New customers or not, another 2-year contract is being made.”
Microsoft To Offer Free Antivirus
Windows has Defender and apparently soon an antivirus app to accompany it. Whether it will perform as well as the others of its ilk remains to be seen.
Microsoft Corp is getting ready to unveil a long-anticipated free anti-virus service for personal computers that will compete with products sold by Symantec Corp and McAfee Inc.
A Microsoft spokesman said on Wednesday that the world's biggest software maker is testing an early version of the product with its own employees. Microsoft would “soon” make a trial version, or product beta, available via its website, he added, but declined to provide a specific date.
Europe to Receive Browser-less Windows 7
It’s already been made clear by Microsoft that Internet Explorer 8 can be uninstalled, or disabled, from Windows 7, which is due to launch on Oct. 22nd. However, the company is going still further in Europe, where it will not sell any versions of Windows 7 that contain IE. C|Net first uncovered the change, via a leaked memo. This is obviously a pre-emptive “strike” at E.U. regulators, who have looked askance at some of Microsoft’s practices. In part, the memo, which has already been delivered to OEMs, said:

Microsoft To Enter PC Security Market With Morro
Symantec, McAfee and Norton. What do all three of those have in common? A little something with Microsoft, now. For years upon years, the first three companies have been ruling the PC security roost, all while Microsoft scrambles to patch its own operating systems when new exploits are discovered and reported. At long last, the OS maker has decided to give itself some of the medicine rather than taking it from the spoons of other vendors. A spokesperson for the company recently stated that it would soon reveal
