Asustek to launch 11.6-inch Eee PC later this month

Asustek Computer plans to launch an 11.6-inch Eee PC later this month, but will still consider 10-inch the mainstream specification for 2009, account for 50% of total shipments, while 11.6-inch models will account for 30%, according to company president Jerry Shen.

The company will launch a 15.6-inch mid-range to high-end CULV-based ultra-thin notebook, the XS15, priced at 799-999 euro (US$1063-1330) and a 13.3-inch model priced at 599-699 euro in July. The company also plans to launch 14-inch models this year, Shen noted.

Wi-Fi Taking To The Skies More Each Day

Maybe the new slogan for the ailing airline industry should be, “Fly the wi-fi skies.”Perfect for the folks who start getting the shakes when they get on an airplane and are cut off from Internet access for the duration of their flight, more and more airlines are offering wi-fi Internet access, reports CNN. And those that don’t are working on it. Right now it’s just within North America, but it’d be hard to imagine it remaining that limited for long.Gogo Inflight Internet provides the access on Delta, American

LG to Release GT810H (LG Incite Clone)

LG GT810H

Various tech news sites are reporting that LG has a new Windows Mobile Smartphone up its sleeve.  The GT810H (seen left) looks an awful lot like the current CT810 LG Incite sold by AT&T.

And the similarities aren’t just skin deep.  The GT810 and CT810 (Incite) each have a 200×400 3” touchscreen, a 3MP camera, microSDHC expansion, 256MB flash ROM, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, HSDPA network support, etc., etc.

In fact, it appears that, for all intents and purposes, the GT810 is the CT810, but perhaps simply destined for other shores than the U.S.

Here’s hoping that LG (a featured partner at the Windows Mobile 6.5 announcement earlier this year) has more than this clone up its sleeve for 2009.

Will Apple Lower Prices On Macs This Spring?

Apple never has been a company to cater to the lower-end. For whatever reason, it just never has had to compete on price alone. For decades, the company has made clear that the price premium associated with its products was due to the unique design and ingenuity. That said, there’s hardly ever been a better time for Apple to consider dipping into the low-end pool, and rumors have been running rampant along those very lines.According to a new report in the International Business Times, steeper than usual price

Sapphire HD 4890 Atomic Edition Review @ OCC and other reviews from around the web can be found by visiting our forums!

“The Sapphire HD 4890 Atomic Edition is a ready to be a prime time player. In the single GPU field, the GTX 285 has been the undisputed king of the mountain, and usually carries the title of the fastest single GPU card on the market. It now has competition in this category, as the HD 4890 Atomic puts a serious dent in the performance gap between ATI and Nvidia. So much so that when pushed, the Atomic HD 4890 even pulled ahead of the factory overclocked GTX 285 in more than a couple tests. Not quite there, but getting much closer. What makes this card appealing to me is the fact that Sapphire has once again gone out and produced a video card using their own PCB, with improved voltage regulation, added their own Vapor-X cooling, and delivered a factory overclocked video card that serves notice that ATI will not allow Nvidia to rest on its laurels. Usually you wait months for a card like this to appear, but Sapphire wasted no time bringing this one to market.”

An Introduction To AMD Spin-Off Global Foundries

Early last week, we spent a day or so with a number of representatives from Global Foundries, learning about the company’s plans for a new fab that will be built in upstate New York. The name Global Foundries may be unfamiliar to many of you, but the company’s origins may not. If you remember back to October 2008, AMD and the Advanced Technology Investment Company (ATIC) of Abu Dhabi announced the creation of a leading-edge global semiconductor manufacturing company, born from AMD’s existing fabrication infrastructure.

Hey, kids — how would you feel about taking your next round of end-of-quarter exams without even having to pick up a pencil? In a move that we can only hope spreads encouragement to classrooms around the world, about 6,000 students in the nation of Norway are being allowed to complete examinations on their laptops in a trial run that could soon be rolled out across the country.Every single 16 to 19-year

Amazon To Launch Larger Screen Kindle This Week

It’s official: the world is getting another Kindle. Whether or not it needs another Kindle remains to be seen, but you can bet the print media publications are all in agreement that we do. Not quite a month after we began to hear rumors that a larger screen Kindle was in the works, Amazon has officially scheduled a press conference for this Wednesday where it will unveil a new device in conjunction with at least a few major newspapers. The oddest part about all of this is that the Kindle 2 just came out in February
