Palm Pre May Begin Shipping in mid-May

Palm Pre Smartphone

We’re beginning to see reports that Sprint employees have begun training on the upcoming Palm Pre and its new webOS.  That means that release will come soon, and according to one source, soon could be mid-May.

PhoneNews.com is reporting that the Pre could begin selling on May 17th if stock levels are high enough, but that date could be postponed to as late as June 29 if conditions warrant.  Stock levels are the primary factor cited in determining the release date, but we’ve seen other factors affect mobile product releases over the years(glitches, model-specific service delays, etc.), so we’ll keep a close eye on this going forward.

Tech earnings will show how Silicon Valley is faring in the downturn

Some of Silicon Valley's largest and most important tech companies are about to unveil earnings reports this month that will be eagerly scrutinized by analysts and investors, looking for signs about the future economic health of this region's dominant industry. Many of the profit and sales figures for the first three months of this year are bound to be unimpressive, if not downright dismal.

Few reports will be checked more closely than the one to be issued Tuesday by Intel, the world's dominant maker of chips. “We're all going to be watching Intel,” said Craig Berger an analyst with FBR Capital Markets. “Intel is going to be a guidepost for the rest.” Intel's semiconductors serve as the brains for a wide variety of personal computers, servers and other electronic gadgets. So when Intel's chip sales dwindle, it signals a possible slowdown in business at other companies that use its products, ranging from giants like Hewlett-Packard to small, off-brand personal-computer makers.

April 13 News from Around the Web

Head over to our forums to read the MSI 790GX-G65 Motherboard Review @ motherboards.org and other reviews from around the web!

AMD's launch of the AM3 platform is an interesting one from many angles. For the new computer owner the move to DDR3 memory is pretty clear as fewer and fewer motherboards with DDR2 memory support are hitting the market today compared to a year or two ago. DDR3 memory on the AMD platform requires AM3 CPUs. The extra memory resulted in increased performance in 3DMark Vantage and 06 over a slower AMD Phenom II X4 940 using DDR2 memory. MSI has put together a solid package in the form of the MSI 790GX-G65 motherboard, with good features, excellent bundle and very decent overclocking the MSI board is an easy choice over some of the other 790GX boards with support for DDR3.

SandForce Delivers Quick SF-1000 SSD Processors

This may be the first and last time you hear of SandForce, but if you’re looking to finally buy into the solid state drive arena within the next few months, you’ll probably get acquianted one way or another. The SD-1000 SSD Processor family are highly integrated silicon devices which are said to “address the inherent endurance, reliability, and data retention issues associated

Asus W90Vp 18.4″ Gaming Notebook

As of late, much of the spotlight on Asus products has focused on the company’s diminutive Eee PC netbook line. With a near constant stream of new models to fit nearly any possible set of requirements, it’s easy to see why the Eee brand has become Asus’ most recognizable. That said, the company’s mobile product offerings are definitely about more than just 8- to 10-inch machines, and that’s clearly evidenced by the Asus-branded rig that we’re looking at today, the W90Vp. The W90Vp pulls no punches, makes no

NVIDIA’s Bill Dally Joins In The Intel Hating

It’s like a disease, really. You come to NVIDIA , you get a few paychecks and you start bashing Intel. Even the astute, politically correct Bill Dally — which NVIDIA picked up from Stanford University as its Chief Scientist earlier this year — is breaking out from his shell in order to slam Intel and promote his own view of the future of processors. In a sit-down with The New York Times , Dally explained that now seemed like a wonderful time to break from academia (partially, at least) and “bring products
