CM Storm Scout Gaming Case SGC-2000-KKN1-GP @ Benchmark Reviews and other reviews from around the web can be found by visiting our forums!

What differentiates a serious Gaming PC from all the rest of the PCs in the world? To me, it's all about graphics performance, but I know there are many who would disagree. They would say it's a combination of factors, including appearance and some extra functionality needed to survive the physical gaming environment. Cooler Master has created a new division called CM Storm to address the specific needs of gamers. Their latest product, introduced at CEBIT in early March, is called Scout: The True Gaming Case, and is aimed at the mid-market enthusiast. The first thing you notice about the CM Storm Scout Gaming Case is its appearance, particularly the swooping, integrated handle that graces the top surface. That's an obvious nod to the LAN Party setting, but what about the rest of the case? The Scout has several other features that are aimed at the gaming market, as we'll see. Follow along with Benchmark Reviews and let'! s see if the Scout (SGC-2000-KKN1-GP) has enough gaming DNA to survive the ruthless natural selection process that takes place in this very demanding marketplace.

New Conficker Worm Variant Spotted

We had all been warned: April 1 was the day that the infamous DOWNAD/Conficker worm was supposed to activate and do its dastardly deeds, whatever they might be. The day came and went without a whimper of Conficker-initiated destruction, although that didn’t stop countless media outlets from reporting on it (HotHardware included). Conficker did generate 50,000 domain names and began contacting the domains–as predicted–but no damage was done to infected systems, at least as far as researchers could tell. Other

Google Releases Video Tour of Data Center

Earlier this month Google sponsored a conference on data center efficiency where they showed by example how to achieve the most processing power while consuming the least amount of electricity. This is quite an about-face for Google as previously they have been notoriously secretive about their data centers and server infrastructure. Since its inception Google has chosen to forego purchasing servers from Dell, IBM, and HP like other data centers usually do and instead has employed the use of custom built servers.

Acer Intros Thin, Long-Lasting Timeline Laptops

Not content with jointly announcing the world’s first commercial Ion-based nettop, Acer also delivered an all new line of notebooks this week. The suitably named Timeline series aims to take on the likes of Adamo (from Dell) and the X-Slim family (from MSI). The standout features on the Timeline rigs are excellent battery life, stellar design and prices that actually aren’t outrageous. 2.2.1 iPhone FW Updates Kills Some Users’ Wi-Fi

We haven’t seen this with my iPhone 3G and the 2.2.1 firmware, but apparently some users lost wi-fi connectivity after applying that firmware update. The problem seems to affect iPhones and older iPhone 3Gs, and it seems to be heat-related, as some users say putting the affected iPhone into the freezer for a short time temporarily restores connectivity. The obvious assumption is overheating, and some believe that what happened was Apple was throttling the wi-fi chip until 2.2.1 and that after removing that “brake,”

AP Files Takedown Notice — With an AP Affiliate

AP recently announced that it was going to “develop a system to track content distributed online to determine if it is being legally used.” As we know from last year’s dust-up over fair use of AP articles, AP doesn’t really understand the word fair. And it appears, AP doesn’t understand the word affiliate, either (or YouTube, for that matter). AP has a YouTube channel. Those videos have embed codes. An AP affiliate, WTNQ-FM, received a cease-and-desist letter from an AP vice president of affiliate relations

Cox Announces Wireless Network Plans

Cable operator Cox Communications is getting closer to launching a new cell phone service. The company has been interested in wireless for some time. Previously, Cox had been involved in a joint venture with Comcast, Time Warner, and other cable providers to offer cell phone service through a partnership with Sprint Nextel. The joint venture, called Pivot, dissolved last year due to disagreements among the participants regarding marketing strategy and pricing. Comcast and Time Warner have since pursued other
