Two Satellites Collide Over Siberia

Two large communications satellites, one American and one Russian, collided in space 490 miles over Siberia, NASA reported Wednesday. The collision involved an Iridium commercial satellite, launched in 1997, and a Russian satellite, Cosmos 2251, which was launched in 1993 and believed to be non-functioning. The Iridium satellite weighed 1,234 pounds, and the Russian craft weighed 1,984 pounds. Air Force Lieutenant Colonel Les Kodlick of the U.S. Strategic Command said:”We believe it’s the first time that two

CPU Market Decline To Continue Through 1H 2009

We know — huge shock, right? As with the GPU market right now, the CPU market is also struggling, and a recent report from research firm IDC suggests that it’ll continue to do so throughout the first half of 2009. With both Intel and AMD reeling from tough Q4s, it wouldn’t take a full blown report for the layperson to assume that chip demand was sinking. That said, we’ll always take the facts over speculation. The IDC article noted that “worldwide PC microprocessor shipments fell significantly in the fourth

ASUS Revamps Router Management With EZ UI

Consumers generally don’t have to setup or tweak router settings but once or twice a year, if that. But for those who find themselves locked into WLAN GUIs for work or pleasure with any semblance of regularity, you’ll understand just how wonderful it is to see someone working on a better way. ASUS has recently introduced its EZ UI, which it’s calling the “world’s most user-friendly network solution for manual-free setup and easy management.” Quite the tongue-twister, huh? What this all boils down to is a fresh

NVIDIA Quarterly Driver Update for Notebooks is Now Live

Today NVIDIA made it possible for notebook owners with GeForce 7 Series graphics processing units (GPUs) to upgrade their systems with the click of a button. When NVIDIA changed the way notebook GPU customers received driver upgrades by putting a driver on NVIDIA.com, they promised quarterly driver updates for GeForce owners. As promised, NVIDIA delivered the second notebook driver release today!

The first NVIDIA.com notebook driver was wildly popular, with over 1 Million downloads to date. The biggest complaint about that driver was the lack of support for the GeForce 7 Series. Today we are happy to deliver a driver to these customers. This driver also adds support for Hybrid SLI notebooks. By providing notebook drivers to our customers, NVIDIA has extended NVIDIA CUDA technology to notebook GPUs for GeForce equipped notebooks. CUDA technology also moves physics processing to the GPU for new levels of realism in games and virtual worlds based on the market leading PhysX API.

Firefox Mobile ‘Fennec’ Pre-Alpha Now Available

1st Fennec Pre-Alpha for Windows Mobile

It’s a week late(ish), but the first Windows Mobile version of Fennec – the codename for the upcoming Firefox Mobile web browser – is now available for download.  The download is designed to run on the HTC Touch Pro ONLY.

This is a pre-alpha, meaning that it’s a light year away from ready for primetime, but if you have an HTC Touch Pro (AT&T Fuze) and intestinal fortitude, you can download the .CAB installer and get to browsin’…

… or maybe not.

We’ve installed Fennec v0.11 and while the program does run on our HTC Touch Pro (after the better part of a minute) we couldn’t actually browse any web pages.  All we got was a checker board background and a Welcome to Fennec page title, and we’re not the only ones.  Let us know if you have better luck.

But, for good or ill, this first pre-alpha for Windows Mobile shows that Mozilla is hard at work on a mobile version of the web browser 21% of us use and love.

NOTE: We recommend that you backup your device before installing this pre-alpha.
