AMD Phenom II X4 940 Black Edition CPU @ BmR and other reviews from around the web can be found by visiting our forums! Be sure to check out our review on the AMD Phenom II X4 940 here that we did last month.

Nearly every enthusiast who has overclocked a computer system has wished that processors weren't restricting them from the hobby they love. Even I can still recall the good old days (less than four years ago) before Intel and AMD locked the clock multiplier on their processors and overclocking was a combination of factors and no limited to the stability of a motherboard. Intel believes that their Core i7-965 Extreme Edition (EE) processor series is worth the $1000 price tag, but AMD begs to differ. Perhaps the timing is right then, and consumers won't hastily spend unnecessary cash on an expensive unlocked processor when AMD offers their Black Edition Phenom II X4 940 CPU for just $220. Benchmark Reviews compares the field, and tests the X4 940BE HDZ940XCGIBOX against the Intel Core i7-920.

ECS and MSI see sharp on-year revenue decline in January

First-tier motherboard makers Elitegroup Computer System (ECS) and Micro-Star International (MSI) both suffered a revenue decline in January this year, according to the companies.

ECS has announced consolidated revenues of NT$4.23 billion (US$124.45 million) for January, drops of 40.64% on month and 42.08% on year. The company shipped around 1.1 million motherboards and 200,000-300,000 notebooks in January. ECS expects its shipments and revenues in February and March to be better than in January, but will to not have any significant growth. MSI saw revenues of NT$5.78 billion for January, drops of 4.63% on month and 39.43% on year. Some market watchers expect the company's revenues in February and March to increase slightly, but will be unable to match those of the same period in the previous year.

Google Adds Location Info to Gmail Signatures

Time stamping is a standard feature in all email systems. With a time stamp, we know exactly when an email was sent, but we don’t know where it was sent from. Marco Bonechi, a Software Engineer with Google, loves to travel and is often asked via email, “Where are you?” This got Bonechi thinking, so he utilized his 20% time at Google to develop an experimental Gmail Labs feature that will detect your location and append the city region and country names to your signature. It looks something like this: To try

Prince Albert of Monaco Digs GeForce 3D Vision

It appears that Prince Albert II of Monaco is a fan of NVIDIA’s new stereoscopic 3D technology, judging by his reaction to 3D Vision at a recent event. Prince Albert visited the Imagina Trade show in Monaco, where NVIDIA was showing off their 3D Vision, Quadroplex and CUDA technologies.  And he seemed to enjoy the effect produced by GeForce 3D Vision, if the pictures below are any indicator.Imagina is one of Europe’s leading events for the 3D community, and focuses on products or technologies that

Remember when we told you about Fennec’s upcoming availability for Windows Mobile? Now, it’s here.  Yesterday, Mozilla released a pre-alpha test build of the Windows Mobile port. AMD Forced To Postpone Vote On Abu Dhabi Spinoff

This deal has been spinning on the back burner for years now, but unfortunately for AMD, the whole thing is going to be drawn out just a wee bit longer. If you’ll recall, AMD had struck a number of deals that would essentially enable it to spinoff its manufacturing plants. Agreements had been made that would see Advanced Technology Investment, an Abu Dhabi state-owned venture capital firm, invest $2.1 billion (at least initially) for a 55.6 percent stake in the joint venture; out of that chunk, $700 million
