Steve Jobs unveiled a slew of new Apple notebooks only a few moments ago… So without further ado, here are the juicy tidbits: Apple is using a new manufacturing technique that actually carves the MacBook’s frame from a single slab of Aluminum. What starts out as a 2.5-pound metal slab becomes a ” unibody ” notebook frame that weighs less than 0.25 pounds. The carved-off pieces of aluminum are captured and recycled. This new manufacturing process enables Apple to build stronger, lighter, and thinner notebooks.

VIA Nano Processor: World’s Safest & Power Efficient Cryptography for x86 PCs
VIA Technologies today showed that the cryptographic performance of the VIA Nano processor is the most power efficient on the market, due to its dedicated VIA PadLock Security Engine, a suite of security tools integrated directly into the processor die. The hardware security implementation within the VIA Nano processor means that user data is handled more efficiently and safely by circuitry deep inside the silicon, rather than by using more vulnerable operating system, memory and software resources.
The benchmarking of the 1.3GHz VIA Nano processor using SiSoftware's newest release of the SiSoftware Sandra 2009 diagnostic utility showed the VIA Nano processor performing the cryptographic tests at a blazing 765MB/s of bandwidth, over 93% faster than a 3.2GHz Intel Core 2 Quad QX9770 processor, yet using a mere 5% of the power. “Fast, power efficient and safe data encryption are quickly becoming a top concern of mobile PC users,” said Richard Brown, Vice President of Marketing, VIA Technologies, Inc. “Data protection and identity theft for lost and stolen devices are issues that are compounded by the growth of the mobile computing market, key areas where the VIA Nano processor can significantly help protect users data.”
Windows 7 Gets Named: “Windows 7”
Since the codename for the next release of Windows was announced, many of us have wondered what the actual name would be. Well, it turns out that the codename for the next version of Windows, Windows 7, is going to be the actual name for the product. And in what is somewhat of a passing of the torch, the announcement was made not on the Windows 7 blog, but on the Windows Vista blog. In a few weeks we are going to be talking about the details of this release at the PDC and at WinHEC. We will be sharing a pre-beta
HP Slimline Desktops Hit With Nvidia GPU Defect
It was just a matter of time, but the defective Nvidia mobile GPUs that keep coming to light in a growing number of laptops models have finally made the unfortunate leap to desktops. Hewlett-Packard (HP) is reporting that 38 different models in its Slimline Desktop PC line are potentially affected by possibly defective Nvidia-based GPUs. HP reports that the affected models “may not boot or may not display video,” and has implemented a “Limited Warranty Service Enhancement” that “provides for a motherboard replacement

EVGA 790i SLI FTW Digital PWM Motherboard Review
When eVGA launched the 790i SLI FTW motherboard a few months back, their non-reference design won them a lot of acclaim. Now they've taken something great and made it even better with the inclusion of an 8-phase digital PWM. The 790i SLI FTW already featured a solid PWM, so how does this new digital PWM match up? Read on to find out!
