EU Directive to Force iPhone Battery Changes?

One of the criticized “features” of the iPhone since Day One has been the lack of a user-swappable battery. For any heavy user, the fact that you can no longer rely on being able to carry a spare battery for a long day of use, but rather, a charger, has been a sore point. Of course, with the device’s amazing popularity, many have overlooked that flaw, or worked around it with external battery extenders. However, the EU will likely not be so kind. Earlier this month Steve Ballmer spoke about a cloud-based development environment, though he wouldn’t go into detail, saving it for the Professional Developers Conference (PDC) at the end of this month. Motorola Q11 Now Official, Coming December 2008

q11 After months of waiting for the Motorola Q10, we learned that the next device in the Q series will be, in fact, the Q11.  And now, it’s official: the Motorola Q11 does exist and will be released in December 2008.

The Motorola Q11 will run Windows Mobile 6.1 and includes the as-yet-unreleased but updated Internet Explorer 6 Mobile web browser.  Other features include quad band GPRS/EDGE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth v2.1, a microSDHC card slot, onboard GPS and a 3MP camera.  It looks like the Q11 will not include HSDPA, which may be because the device has onboard Wi-Fi.

Although the new Q will debut in December, it’s U.S. release schedule is unclear. [PRODUCT DOCUMENTATION PDF]
