PowerColor PCS+ HD 4870 1GB GDDR5
There is no way to categorize AMD’s recent launch of the RV770 graphics processor powering the Radeon HD 4800 series of cards as anything other than a resounding success. Cards based on the GPU hit the scene offering very strong performance in their respective price brackets, and forced rival NVIDIA to react with a quick round of price cuts that will surely eat into NVIDIA’s margins on the gigantic 65nm GT200 chip. Although actual sales figures aren’t available just yet, we suspect AMD is going to show strong
Google Android-Based iPhone Killer Launches 9/23
For some time now, rumors of the GPhone (or Google phone) have been circulating around the web. While it didn’t make a whole lot of sense that Google was going to get into the hardware business, especially the highly competitive handset business, it seemed reasonable that Google had an interest in the handheld market for obvious reasons, not the least of which is the huge potential in search. Though, as we came to find out, it wasn’t so much the hardware but the “platform” that

Firefox Mobile Pushed Back to 2010?
Recent Internet reports regarding the future of Firefox Mobile (seen here and here) assert that Mozilla will be holding off on a launch of Firefox Mobile until sometime in 2010. This seemed a bit odd to us, so we went digging.
Although these reports state that 2010 is the year for the mobile version of the Firefox web browser, the reference material the reports cite simply suggest that the goal of the organization is to have a mobile version of Firefox by 2010.
It seems strange that users would have to wait a year and a half to two years for this software. We hope it’s not anywhere near that long.

It’s not yet clear how much the device will differ from the baseline Touch Pro model (if at all), but according to BGR, the AT&T Fuze will launch on or around October 23, 2008.
Large Hadron Collider down for 2 months due to hot magnets
The world's largest atom smasher, which was launched with great fanfare earlier this month, is more badly damaged than previously thought and will be out of commission for at least two months, its operators said Saturday. Experts have gone into the 17-mile (27-kilometer) circular tunnel housing the Large Hadron Collider under the Swiss-French border to examine the damage that halted operations about 36 hours after its September 10 startup and now the collider has to be warmed up to be repaired.
Gillies said the sector that was damaged will have to be warmed well above the absolute zero temperature used for operations so repairs can be made, a time-consuming process. “A number of magnets raised their temperature by around 100 degrees,” Gillies said. “We have now to warm up the whole sector in a controlled manner before we can actually go in and repair it.” The $10 billion particle collider, in the design and construction stages for more than two decades, is the world's largest atom smasher. It fires beams of protons from the nuclei of atoms around the tunnels at nearly the speed of light.
Intel launches dual-core Atom processor – Atom 330
Intel released its dual-core Atom 330 processor on September 21 which will mainly target the nettop market. The CPU features a core frequency of 1.6GHz, 533MHz FSB, 1MB L2 cache and has a TDP of 8W. The Atom 330 processor is priced at US$40 in thousand-unit tray quantities, while the single-core Atom 230 is priced at US$29. We took a look at the single core Atom processor against the VIA Nano processor in this article if you wanted to catch up on the Atom 230 processor performance numbers.
The initial launch price of Atom 330-based motherboards in the channel is expected to surpass US$70, which will put Atom 330-based nettop prices at around US$299, while Atom 230-based nettops will be priced around US$249. The dual-core and single-core Atom processors are pin-compatible, single-core Atom platforms will only need a BIOS update to support the dual-core CPUs.
