SanDisk Announces a New Physical Music Format

It’s no secret that music sales comprised of physical media (i.e. CDs) are down in the face of huge competition from iTunes and other digital distribution channels.  At the same time, no one ever said the record labels would give up on physical sales easily.  Today SanDisk, along with the four major record labels (Warner Bros., EMI, Sony BMG and Universal Music Group) have announced a new format: slotMusic. slotMusic is essentially a microSD card with an album on it, and the partners plan to roll it

Google Jumps Into Global Brands Top 10

Last week Interbrand issued its 2008 Best Global Brands rankings. While most of the top 10 remained unchanged from 2007, with IBM and Microsoft swapping places (IBM rose from 3 to 2), one big change emerged: Google rose from 20 to 10, with Mercedes-Benz dropping to 11.  Interbrand produces this report annually, which is then used to produce a special report by Business Week. The report is generated from June 30th to June 30th annually, so while it does show quite a bit of financial firms dropping in global

Millions of iPhone 3G Power Adapters Recalled

Another day, another iPhone 3G “oops.”  Apple has just recently released the 2.1 software upgrade for the iPhone 3G, which seems to have fixed many of the issues with the device’s 3G performance.  While it dodged a bullet in terms of recalling millions of phones, it still has to make a major recall: millions of the small, square-shaped power adapters shipped with the phones. As Apple said on the recall website:Apple has determined that under certain conditions the new ultracompact Apple USB power adapter’s

New Mac Pro Mini In October?

There’s nothing better than a good rumor, especially when it comes to new Apple gear.  It seems like the hype machines spool up a little earlier for the Apple crowd.  And why not, Apple certainly has been executing as of late.  Of course, we always love a good OS marketing war (it took you long enough, MS…) but that’s a whole different can of worms we won’t open here. Still, we can’t help but chuckle, since like many of you who are “in the know”, we also see the striking similarities between

Weekend Project, Dell Studio Hybrid Disassembly

So we were kicking around the lab for the weekend with nothing much to do (ok, ok, we have plenty to do but we decided to goof off).  And what do any self-respecting Tech Geeks do with a little time on their hands?  We take stuff apart of course.  This time our victim was the Dell Studio Hybrid.  We’ll be showcasing this machine next week in on our Video Spotlight channel but this sneak peek will actually give you a pretty solid understanding of what the Studio Hybrid is made of.

HotHardware’s Video Spotlight, A Re-Introduction

Next week we’ll be loading up a shiny new Video Spotlight on Dell’s new svelte, sleek and stylish Studio Hybrid small form-factor system (SFF).  In the mean time, if you haven’t been by the new HH Video Spotlight channel, you’re missing out on some easy-listening, dare we say, even mildly entertaining coverage of some great new technologies.  For instance, Marco offers wrap-up of highlight clips from NVIDIA’s NVISION ’08 show, while Dan B. brings you a photo slide show

September 19 News from Around the Web

You can find reviews from around the web by visiting our forums! The following exerpt is from OCC's Antec Signature 850W Review:

“I would highly recommend the Antec Signature 850W to anyone considering high end graphics cards in SLI or Crossfire but perhaps it's a little expensive and over powered for the majority of users. If price is not an issue and you are looking for a high quality power supply, almost silent up to approximately 500 – 600W, then the Antec Signature 850W will I'm sure, prove to be a wise investment. Despite the failure to meet the claimed 80 Plus Bronze efficiency levels, the efficiency is still very good and I have no hesitation in giving the Antec Signature 850W an OCC Gold Award.”
